State of New Mexico Observes Fifty Years of Statehood Dance

A Golden Anniversary dance in Hidalgo kicks off fifty years of statehood observances for New Mexico. The American Legion sponsors the event at Legion Hall with the New Mexico Playboys providing Western dance music. public invited. A door prize will be awarded at intermission. Virgil Jones president of Hidalgo County Farm and Livestock Bureau denounces Secretary Freeman for hypocrisy as he urges farmers to oppose the Kennedy Administration proposal. The Lordsburg Lions Club will host a pancake supper at the high school cafeteria on Saturday from 5 to 8 p m. Tickets are sold by members and merchants. Pancakes with bacon or sausage offered. smaller portions for children. Proceeds fund community projects.

At the January 27 annual meeting in Columbus 100 members attended. George Pendleton of Animas was chosen president for 1962 replacing ill Charlie Waldrop. Pendleton also serves as vice president with Claude Irwin as vice president and Robert Hemley as secretary treasurer.
