Mayor Hill Seeks Second Term In Lordsburg

Hospital Plan Negotiated in Hidalgo County Lease Talks

Hidalgo County and Gila Regional Hospital reached small adjustments on a 5000 square foot lease for a primary care facility. The term dropped from five to three years with clarified cost responsibilities. New Mexico Wineries earned a wholesale license and a joint powers agreement with NM Industrial Development Corp was signed to aid local development financing. Deputy questions on inmate medical expenses were addressed, with the DA stating the county isn’t liable for inmates not yet residents. Sheriff Darnell warned of impostor police robbers as I-10 runs through the county, recounting a stolen government dump truck recovered with help from Chihuahua officials and the ambulance donation program.

City Announces Gas Rate Increase Notice

City officials report a three cent gas price increase to be passed to customers. A spokesman cites a previous 63 cent reduction and notes talks with suppliers to lower costs. The Mayor and Council seek avenues to control the rising gas expense.

Vehicles Recovered By Officers

Sheriff Billy Darnell reported this week that two stolen vehicles had been recovered by the department. A pickup belonging to Andy Smith of Lordsburg taken May 9, 1984 was found in Chihuahua, Mexico. The vehicle had been stripped. Noah Gonzales, presently incarcerated here will be charged with the theft. He is a Mexican National. The second vehicle was a government truck also located in the state of Chihuahua. The truck was stolen in Arizona in January of 1986 and Hidalgo County law officers were asked to help with the investigation because of their past experience of working with Mexican law officials. The vehicle will be returned to the United States. Mexican Nationals were also responsible for the theft. (Continued on Page 5) The Knights of Columbus will be distributing cheese Saturday, February 22 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Distributions will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Estrada Pleads Guilty To Practicing Law Without License

Petra D. Estrada, Hidalgo County District Court clerk, pleaded guilty to practicing law without a license. Magistrate Y B Morales fined her 400 dollars and suspended six months jail with restitution to be set after further study. Charges allege involvement in legal work for four divorces and two adoptions and misleading citizens on court fee costs. Further disciplinary action rests with District Judge Norman Hodges.
