Lordsburg will premiere its first talking picture this Saturday at the new Alice Theatre in the old Star location. The program starts with Broadway style sound films and includes The Mighty featuring Cooper Bancroft with Esther Ralston. Matinees at 2:30 and 7:00 and 9:00 showings on Saturday and Sunday.

Mahoney and Fulton Inspect Paving Work

JR Mahoney state highway commissioner and Sam P Fulton district highway engineer visited Tuesday to inspect the paving. They approved progress and noted bituminous paving will allow road use weeks sooner than cement, which would require at least three weeks to set.

Highline Completed to S P Pump Station

Jas Smith and crew of Texas Louisiana Power Co completed the highline to the Southern Pacific pump station east of town this week. A new standard steel fence was erected around the Atwood mine sub station, and lightning arresters were installed.

Saddened by Mine Disaster in Bonney Town

One of the saddest mine accidents in recent years occurred at the Bonney mine. Robert Gilmore, a respected townsman, died after drilling into a blast he had placed. His funeral was held from the Church of Christ with Jack Heather directing. The bereaved family has the community's deepest sympathy.

Showings Ideal At P. O. 8 Project Oil Sand Depths

Judging from present indications, leaseholders around the P. O. BH test well face a promising drill. After passing through lime and shale, the pipe sits at 1404 feet to shut off water and test sand. Sand shows higher oil saturation than at 1360 feet where oil and gas first appeared. Surface conditions remain ideal and drilling advances toward the next oil sand at 1456 feet. Water shut-off not assured, but indicators point to progress.

Mrs V Auriemma mother of Baron Auriemma of Lordsburg died in New York City hospital on Monday the 17th at age 0 years. She had lived in Providence Rhode Island and was visiting a son when a stroke caused her death.
