Bassett Promoted To District Manager At TNP Lordsburg

James L. Bassett rises to district manager of Texas New Mexico Power Company Lordsburg replacing A C Rodriguez who moves to Bayard. Bassett began as a groundman in 1974 and progressed to lineman then electric serviceman before the latest promotion. He is a Silver City native, Cobre High School graduate and ex New Mexico State University student. He is married to Regina McSherry with two sons Seth and Keith and serves as Lordsburg Fire and Rescue chief. He enjoys hunting fishing and scuba diving.

Local Seven Digit Dialing Begins In Lordsburg NM

At midnight on Tuesday February 17 a new digital telephone office opened in Lordsburg replacing the 1960 era switch. The Northern Telecom Series 400 Generic handles 1900 lines with about 80 toll trunks. Features for touch tone users include call waiting call forwarding and three way calls plus abbreviated dialing. A new 911 emergency line was added at the sheriff's office and 611 is the trouble number. Seven digits must be dialed for local calls.

Tatsch Wins School Job for Lordsburg High Additions

Tasch Construction of Silver City won the Lordsburg School Board bid for the high school additions at 1 229 500 dollars. Bidders included GenCon Corporation Mesilla NM Mesilla Valley Construction and Crestline Building Corp of El Paso. The breakdown allocates 783 700 for additions 222 300 remodeling 54 400 and 31 400 windows wall work 32 500 canopy 18 500 exterior tile 36 000 casework 15 100 music rooms and 35 600 science lab work.

Crimes Solved by Department Reported by Sheriff Payne

Sheriff Lloyd Payne said juveniles were apprehended for two last week and Feb 7 crimes. Stolen items from Victoria Homes trucks and Border Cowboy Truck Stop kit were recovered. Feb 11 armed robbery outside Video Connection ended when juvenile attackers fled after a knife was shown. A POW Road accident near James Hamilton farm involved a vehicle hitting a fence as deputy responded.

High Winds Raze Homes and Signage in Lordsburg

High winds hit Lordsburg on Saturday causing damage to mobile homes signs and siding. Tumbleweeds added to debris as storm gusts disrupted the town.
