Trujillo backs anti pollution stance amid tax debates

State Senator Carlos Trujillo Democrat advocates strong water pollution controls while supporting a governor appointed director for a new State Property Tax rument and the elimination of the State Tax Commission. He also voted for a tax relief measure granting 8.16 billion in 1969 income tax relief and aligned with Lea County legislators in fights over school funding for next fiscal year.

New Law Cuts New Mexico Income Tax By 20 Percent

The law signed February 7 1970 by Governor Cargo provides a 20 percent tax reduction for 1969 NM income tax. Taxpayers with filed returns get automatic refunds. those未 filed should compute 20 percent of Line 16 as a surtax credit on Line 17 PIT-1, and net tax on Line 18. All returns due by April 15 1970.

B&PW Urges Citizens To Display The Flag

The Lordsburg Business and Professional Women urge all residents to fly the flag on designated days and keep a list for reference. Days include Washington’s Birthday Easter Sunday Mothers Day Armed Services Day Memorial Day Flag Day Independence Day Labor Day Citizenship Day Columbus Day Veterans Day Thanksgiving Christmas New Year Inauguration and Lincoln’s Birthday. The flag should be centered and raised highest when displayed with other flags.

Shooting Education To Resume Monday

The Jaycee Shooting Education Program resumes Monday evening February 23 at 7 30 at the National Guard Armory. The third lesson focuses on sighting and aiming with three groups by age and multiple instructors per group. Seventy three children enrolled making Lodsburn the state’s largest program. lists and rules are being mailed to parents.

Animas High School Vocational agriculture students will join FFA members nationwide February 21 to 28 for FFA Week activities. The theme emphasizes agriculture’s importance, leadership, and career opportunities in farming and related fields as 33 Animal FFA members and officers for 1969 70 are listed. Lordsburg Officials Face Water and Sewer Bond Challenge

Attorneys for Victor Lazar Leo Harris and Russell Smith filed an amended complaint against the City of Lordsburg Mayor Alan Koff and council members to block a 700000 bond issue for water and sewer work. A preliminary ruling dismissed the original suit with prejudice while inviting an amended complaint, and the city moved to abandon the project citing funding and litigation costs.

The Southwest New Mexico Resource Conservation and Development steering committee will meet at the Luna County courthouse in Deming February 26 at 9 30 am. Intended Crop Survey Underway in New Mexico

The New Mexico Crop and Livestock Reporting Service will mail a survey to about 4000 crop farmers over the next two weeks to collect planting intentions for the national Prospective Plantings Report due March 13 in Washington.

Animas School Student Dies After Heart Surgery

Erasmo Torres, an Animas School student since 1965, died in an El Paso hospital on February 12 after heart surgery. Born March 2, 1955 in Mexico, he was survived by his parents Socorro, Esperanza, Blanca and Abbie, three sisters and a brother, with burial in Mexico.
