Lordsburg Chamber Banquet Praised by El Paso Editor

El Paso Times editor W. J. Hooten praised Lordsburg at the Chamber of Commerce banquet in the R. R. Club. He highlighted Lordsburg’s strategic location on Highways 70 and 480, mining, ranching, a railroad, and a favorable climate. The event drew about 150 guests, with decor featuring hearts and carnations and a peti tion sign urging support for the chamber. A film by Mr. Junell followed the speaker.

Lordsburg School Bond Election Set for March 5

The Lordsburg Board of Education has set March 5 for a school bond election to fund a new high school building. The vote will be held in the Central building gym from 8 AM to 6 PM. Public sentiment appears strongly in favor, urging qualified voters to participate.

Hidalgo Scout Drive Over the Top in 1948 kickoff

Thirty six Scout minded people attended the Kick Off Breakfast for the 1948 Boy Scout Finance Campaign at the Lee Hotel. The crew was split into five ranches and a group of wranglers with bosses foremen and cowhands listed among named residents and leaders.

The Lordsburg Golf Club met at City Hall on February 11 electing Leo Cohen as President E C Coursey as Vice President and P M Chase as Secretary Treasurer The annual dues are set at 9 75 payable now A city tournament is planned for February 29 open to paid up members with a 1 entrance fee A district tournament is scheduled for June 13 with Deming Hurley Fort Bayard Silver City and Lordsburg as participants

Lions Meet at New Pinto Cafe Tuesday

The Lordsburg Lions Club held their regular meeting at the new Pinto Cafe with large attendance. No report on street marking and numbering. details to be prepared for the next meeting at the La Fiesta Club. A Ladies Meeting is set for February 26 with more information to follow. A carnival to raise Scout funds will be planned by Wesley Freyburg, Harold Scofield, and Glen Dorsett.
