Noce Addresses City Council On Dispatching Costs In Lordsburg
County Commissioner Fausto Noce told Lordsburg City Council the dispatching and jail services create a financial bind as Sheriff Lloyd Payne detailed annual dispatch costs of about 98 000 with 60 percent of calls going to the city and warned rising jail expenses. Mayor Clark Smith noted it would cost 40 000 to 50 000 for the city to run its own dispatch, so the council would continue payments to the county. Officers Confiscate Marijuana At New Mexico Checkpoint
U S Border Patrol and New Mexico State Police seized 92 pounds of marijuana at a Highway 70 checkpoint west of Lordsburg around 7 00 p m Monday. Driver Robert T Payan Jr 26 of Deming was questioned and officers found large bags of marijuana worth about 72000 in the trunk. Payan was taken to Deming by a Deming office special agent.
