Lordsburg Mavericks Triumph In Animas Showdown

Lordsburg Mavericks defeated Animas 75 65 in Animas after a tight first half to avenge an earlier loss. James Murray led Lordsburg with 14 points followed by Ruben Bassa 12 and Nick Granado 11 while Animas was paced by Jim Walters 18 and Jack Lasher 15.

Service Held Monday For Andrew J. Fallat

Andrew J. Fallat, born March 21, 1909 in Auburn New York, died February 13 at his Lordsburg home. He lived in New York until 1945 then Phoenix Arizona before settling in Lordsburg in 1949 as a contractor and plumber. He was a member of B P E No 1913 and the Catholic Church. Surviving: daughter Patricia Bennett and son William Fallat of Phoenix, three sisters, four brothers. Funeral February 15 at 2:00 pm in Heather Chapel with Elks Lodge. services followed by burial in Fleming New York.

Ernesto Renteria reports that Ft. Bayard Hospital veterans may apply for hospitalization as the president withdraws the admission limit. Senators Anderson and Montoya push to raise the VA bed limit by 5000 to prevent hospital closures under the current cap.

Eastern Star Officials to Visit Lordsburg Chapter

Mrs. Anna Mary Bogue and Howard Massey both of Albuquerque will visit Lordsburg Chapter No. 21 on Monday February 22 at 8 p.m. at the Masonic Temple. A banquet honoring the visiting grand lodge officers will precede the lodge meeting at the Range.

Artist Works On Display In Bank Lobby

In the lobby of the First National Bank of Lordsburg an exhibit of three paintings by Eleanor McAlister a local schoolteacher and artist opens. Bank president Ralph Burton announced a monthly feature to showcase a different area artist and initiate a program recognizing regional talent.

Space Demonstration At Lordsburg High School

Lordsburg High School students will learn about the Space Age in a NASA Spacemobile demonstration on February 24. Richard Rice and Ugo Amelio lead, presenting launch vehicle models, space science, and NASA programs through authentic scale payloads and talks on rocketry, satellites, and human spaceflight.

College Day Program At Lordsburg High School

Dr James H McElhaney director of admissions at New Mexico Tech will visit Lordsburg High School on February 24 for a college day. The aim is to acquaint students with state colleges and highlight New Mexico Tech offerings in physical sciences mathematics and engineering. Interviews will be held for interested students through a cooperative program with jobs and research divisions.

Highway 70 Association Holds Regular Meeting

Local citizens attended a Tuesday noon session of the Highway 70 Association at El Charro Cafe. Globe president Dave Hillger and Mesa executive secretary Gene Edmonds led regular business as the group expands from Arizona into other states. Lordsburg members Mrs. C. P. Austin and Marshall Fuller joined the steering committee as traffic signs directing U S 80 to U S 70 were authorized and new promotion ideas were discussed. The Business and Professional Women's Club in Deming hosted Wesley Freeburg as a guest speaker. He urged expanded Vocational Technical Education to aid youth, following a Valentines themed dinner at Range Cafe. Public Drawing Held For Javelina Licenses

Would be hunters outnumber licenses by nearly two to one for the February 2028 hunt. A public drawing was held Friday at the Santa Fe office of the Department of Game and Fish. The hunt covers Hidalgo County and parts of Grant County for one javelina of either sex. Hunters must check in and out at the T and T cafe check station in Lordsburg.

House Passes Compromise Bill Amending By-Pass Law

The House approved a compromise measure 47 to 2 to amend the anti by pass law. It excludes communities under 500 population and relieves the highway department from needing permission for by passes in the San Fidel Budoville area on Interstate 40.
