Auto Tragedy Claims Henry Schmidt in Lordsburg

Henry Schmidt 23 died after a crash on Highway 80 near Lordsburg. He was found in his McNutt Ol truck and believed struck by a passing auto. a coroner’s jury ruled death by violent blow to the base of the brain. An auto party was questioned in Las Cruces and released. remains sent to El Paso for burial. He left a wife and child.

Counterfeiters Bound To U S District Court

Sheriff John Cavins and City Marshal Felix Jones detained two alleged counterfeiters, Donald Edward Miller and Clay Cape, after counterfeit coins appeared in slot machines and were found at a local hotel and touring camp cottages. Robert B. Wells, Secret Service, joined a preliminary hearing. Miller pleaded guilty to one count, Cape not guilty. both bound over to the U.S. Grand Jury. Deputy Dennis Rutland scheduled transport to Deming jail for further action.

World War veterans in Lordsburg reorganized the Ro bert Swan Post No 30 at the Hidalgo Hotel lounge. Paul W Brown was named Acting Post Commander and Frank Weldon Jr Acting Adjutant. Hoke Smith of Reserve Post No 55 led the restructuring with Fourth District support. Next meeting set for February 25 at Jesae Hotel to elect permanent officers for five years.
