The Mavericks defeated the Virden Eagles 99 to 45 to close the home season. They led 37 to 21 at halftime and dominated the game, with Allan and Williams each scoring 13 points and Maxwell adding 13. Virden's top scorers were J. Donaldson and K. Miltonson with 12 each.

One Car Crash Near Lordsburg Harms Child
A two miles east of Lordsburg last Saturday February 12 a one car crash injured a child seriously and minor injuries to three others. Richard Darnell of San Bernardino drove a 1950 Ford that left the road and overturned once and a half. Mrs Dixie Burgess and her baby daughter Sandra were hospitalized with severe injuries while a boy and another child had minor hurts. All were taken to area hospitals. The driver was not speeding but could not judge distance and brake in time to avoid the crash.

PTA Meeting Draws Record Crowd at Local High School
A large turnout attended the PTA regular meeting in the high school auditorium. CAP Squadron members Jesse Austin and Paul Malott spoke about the summer camp for cadets. The PTA voted to sponsor one cadet for the camp. Mrs. Jesse Austin reported on the summer roundup to inoculate and prepare first graders for the new year, including teacher meet-and-greets. Later this month two mobile X ray units will offer free screenings for all ages with three photo types.
