Hidalgo County Commissioners Meet Highlights and Land Plans
Hidalgo County Commissioners held their February meeting focusing on a soil and water conservation program presented by Jim Wilborn of the Soil Conservation Agency. The board approved the plan under the 1977 Resources Conservation Act and discussed BLM land sales, 80 acres near Pyramid Village, and the North Virden Landfill. Sunshine Haven Nursing Home Turns Ten This February
Sunshine Haven Nursing Home marks ten years of operation on Saturday February 18 1974 the anniversary of the first patient admission. Andra Evenson was the first administrator overseeing Emma Culp’s residency as staff grew from 23 to 65 and capacity reached 83 residents. The home’s facilities include four wings from 100 to 400 and a newly added garden patio with a $50000 sprinkler system. Administrators have changed three times with Andra Evenson Don Humphrey and current head Rose Allen. The facility employs four RNs and five LPNs and maintains a 17 member Board of Directors led locally by William Kipp.

Californians Arrested For Burglary
Sheriff Billy Darnell reports that a 30 year old female and a 29 year old male were arrested Tuesday Sandra Linn Lee and Daniel Andrews Ross were charged with burglary within a vehicle. Arresting officers were Newell and Holly. Also on the 14th two local juveniles were arrested for burglary of a structure larceny over 100 and curfew violations. They were caught inside Circle H Convenience store by Hidalgo deputies. Four juveniles were also arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle from Truth or Consequences and are held in Lordsburg pending pickup by T or C authorities.
