Football Banquet An Outstanding Affair

The high school football banquet drew a large crowd Monday evening with an immaculate dinner by Miss Thomas class. Capt Harold Scofield presided as toastmaster and letters were awarded to Harold Scofield Phil Causland Archie Causland Harry Gale Hubert Jeffus Chandler Hill Delbert Wilkinson J T Austin Jackson Cross Gerald Fuller Earle Turpin Daniel Dunagan Rufus Jones. Archie Causland named 1928 captain and J S Austin second captain. Many staff and community members attended the event and the program included musical numbers and a tribute to Coach Blom.

Frank P. Turner of Amarillo and Henry Ansley of the Amarillo News Globe traveled to Lordsburg this week to view the oil prosperity of the town. They met Joe Foster and the Leach & Leach firm and shared observations before not staying for luncheon club.

Box Supper At Star Theatre February 14

Ex-soldiers first right to land near Hidalgo county

The notice sets aside township 23 South in Hidalgo county for ex-soldiers with a filing preference until February 26. After that date the land opens to any U S citizen over 21 who is eligible to enter public lands. It warns that the public lands are moving quickly.

Muir announces engagement of Mary Dee to Rex Kipp

Boy Scout Anniversary Program Impresses Audience At High School

The 8th anniversary Boy Scouts program in the high school auditorium featured B. J. Cross as district chairman, with Mixes Garner at the piano and John Hall leading the flag pledge. Judge F. Ho Keller spoke on be ready and Col Lindbergh’s example, while Rev. Wolfe and others offered talks and a stirring national song, highlighting service and good deeds by scouts.

Well Loved Pioneer Dies in Las Cruces Home

Thotite McQueen native Chicagoan and pioneer of the Middle West, died at his Las Cruces home on Saturday at midnight. Funeral services were held at J Jagvyos Catholic church with burial in Mountainview cemetery near Lorde burg. Survived by wife and two children Thomas Jr of Chicago and Mrs C B Austin of Valedon New Mexico.
