The Western division 4 B tournament will be held in Lordsburg on February 19 and 20. Preliminary games start at 1 00 and 2 40 each day with semi finals at 7 30. No Saturday afternoon games but three Saturday night contests. Eastern tournament moves to Tularosa.
The Mavericks defeated Animas 2 to 1 in a recent conference clash led by Ruiz with 15 points while Hosking topped Animas with 20. Lordsburg Reserves beat Deming 46 43 in the prelim. Deming then routed Lordsburg 56 32 before Lordsburg edged past Deming 47 45 in a dramatic finish.
A faculty versus Lions Club basketball charity event drew about four hundred spectators. The humorous game featured quirky costumes and comic antics by players led by "Midget" Blanton and saw stretcher bearers busy as crowd jokes and a light layout dominated the scene.
R B Ownby marks anniversary as a Knights of Pythias member with a gathering on Tuesday evening February 16 at the K P Hall. All members are invited to contact Harold Scofield to confirm attendance.

A Lordsburg family reports their collie dog Ring, 48, developed rabies after a normal day. The dog became unable to eat, showed aggression, and was euthanized after a Silver City vet confirmed rabies with little hope of survival. The family suspects no known exposure and urges vaccination.
