A Lordsburg piece recalls anti immigrant bias in the United States and a guest social scene while listing local wartime residents and visitors. Mentions Col. Shelton Major Waldo and 2nd Lt. C Anderson, along with Lt. Weller and Mrs. Weller of Detroit.
The first all girls basketball game was staged in the post section hall on Thursday evening with Pvt. H. Reher refereeing. Players included Mesdames Churchill, Thomas Brown, Jack, Capps, F. F. man, Dater, Astor, Castleberry. The match ended amid disheveled faces and clothes with some stiffness reported afterward.
Set B. O. Pollock was happily united with his family upon their recent arrival in Lordsburg. Mrs Pollock and daughter Sylvia Marie had been living the past winter in Clarksville Texas.
Return games with the Duncan Athletics will be played Friday and Saturday February 12 and 14 in Duncan. The army team will play the Deming Airbase Friday February 19 in Deming. The return Deming game will be played Saturday February 20 at the Post Recreation Hall.
The monthly luncheon of officers wives met Wednesday at 1 30 p m in the camp club. Red white decor centered on a zen n ia bouquet. Prizes in bridge and Po Ke No went to Mra 0 J Safford and Mra Albert Ellis. Guests included Mesdames Parker Baker Churchill Saf ford Balch Jack Dockum Capps Carp Northman Sturm Crews Weller and Brinkoeter.
Mrs Thomas and Mrs H H Traylor are recuperating after recent attacks of influenza. They are receiving care and are expected to recover.
Mrs R S Dockum wife of Capt Dockum returned Saturday from a trip to El Paso. The ladies dedicating time to filing books in the new camp library include Mesdames W L Ackerman Earl Leevey T Edwards J F Hughes H C Dater H C Brinkoeter and R S Dockum.
The American Legion Auxiliary will serve an enchilada supper in the undercroft of the Methodist Church next Wednesday February 17 from 5 to 8 pm. Pie and coffee will also be served. The price is 35 cents per plate and extra with eggs. Public is invited.
L. A. Henry Snell from Los Angeles, a mining associate of J. L. Augustine, is in Lordsburg for a few days to observe current mining activities in the area.
The Pythian Sisters met Monday evening at the K of P Hall for routine business.
War time shoe rationing began Sunday February 7 under Ration Order No 17. Stamp 17 in War Ration Book One allows one pair of shoes through June 15 1943. Repairs and certain footwear are exempt. help available for hardship cases. goal is equitable access amid leather and labor shortages.
Albert Hill of Lordsburg is among 97 of 118 graduates from the naval training school for electricians at the University of Minnesota on February 2. The program covered electrical theory wiring mathematics and methods. He is now qualified to serve aboard a modern warship or at a naval shore station. Hockey visits the Hill family.

On the home front 44 500 killed and 3 800 000 injured among American workers. Authorization from the New Mexico Recruiting Office in Santa Fe allows 17 year olds to enlist in the Enlisted Reserve Corps if they have parental consent. Aviation Cadet Training entrants must pass tests and examinations plus provide documents before enlistment in the Air Corps Reserve. Recruits are not ordered to active duty until 18, with active duty possible within six months after turning 18. Apply at Santa Fe District Recruiting and Induction Station or nearest Army Recruiting Office.
The Women’s Division of Hidalgo County bond effort drives the campaign with the slogan Keep ’Em Buying. Since organizing in October, bonds and stamp sales surged, with Lordsburg and the Eastern Stars delivering standout totals. Mrs. Trella Rolfe’s $1000 bond led the top sales, while S. H. Despite bad weather Mrs Claude Fuller’s B Sharp Music Club with guest artists presented a lively program at the Methodist Church. Miss Anna Beth Ewing presided. solos, duos, and readings by Arabella Hill Nally George Avalos Bundy and others drew applause and three encores.
The State Press Association runs a statewide letter writing contest for New Mexico students. Entries must be 160 words on farm food production or family food conservation, with prizes including war bonds and certificates across three student groups.
Invitations have been sent from Mrs Maggie Beakley Smith of Denver for the marriage of Mise neda Marie Smith to Lt Donald Carl Foulk of the Army Air Corps on February 26 at Lowry Field Chapel. The couple formerly resided in Lordsburg with her parents Mr and Mrs Jesse T Smith.
Local War Price and Rationing Board chair M. Chase announced that point system rationing will start March 1 for bottled and frozen fruits vegetables juices soups and dried fruits. Registration for War Ration Book Two runs February 22 to 28 with 48 points per person for March purchases.

Hon. Rufus H. Wamel and Mrs. Wamel attended the University of Southern California graduation of their son R. H. Wamel Jr. He is set to be an officer in the U S Navy. The family then returned home with their son for a brief stay.

The USO Committee, led by Roy Melugin, outlined sub committees for hostess duties Friday events and Wednesday dances. Vesper services start February 21 at 3 16 in the upper hall with each denomination hosting and ministers conducting. Civilians may attend and enlisted men with wives are welcomed to all USO privileges, with a card for female guests.
Tom Watson the rent controller met with property owners at the courthouse on Wednesday and said he will hold the office there every Wednesday with secretary Mrs Eli Counts assisting.
James Carter formerly of Dun can died last Monday and was buried in Phoenix on Wednesday. Sisters Mrs. Anna Wilkinson and Mrs. Emma Dew and niece Mrs. Homer Brooks attended the services. He also left another sister, Mr T. M. Thames.
