Hidalgo NYA Plans Youth Projects Across County

County supervisor Gerald Fuller announced NYA activity in Hidalgo County will run through June 30, 1937 with 33 youths under two projects. Rural youth under Mrs Agnes Edington will finish landscaping at Virden and Rodeo schools and hire a county RSA clerical assistant, while Lordsburg projects include cemetery windbreak hedge planting, three picnic grounds, and a nine hole golf course funded by local groups. Girls will sew for RSA clients under Cecilia Fredricks and may later train as maids. boys will graft fruit trees and hedge cuttings under county agent Paul W Brown with calls for anyone needing grafting help to contact Gerald Puller.

Cowboy Band From Hardin-Simmons To Play Here Tuesday

The World famous Cowboy band from Hardin-Simmons University will give a full concert in the Central School gymnasium next Tuesday at eight. Former Maverick euphonium artist Bobby Williams will join the group, praised by advance agent Harry Hayes as part of a landmark trip for a fresher. The band tours coast to coast, has traveled 276,000 miles in ten years, circled the globe eleven times, and is billed as the Best Known University Band in the World backed by parlor buses owned by the Cowboy Band. Johnny Reagan will also perform as an added entertainment feature.

Recreation School Success Led by Dr Bradford in Hidalgo Area

A week long recreation school directed by Dr John Bradford of New York City and supported by the State College extension service and 4-H leaders drew broad participation. Programs included folk dances such as the Virginia reel and minuet, varied relays, group singing, brain teasers, and a closing appreciation of wholesome recreation.

The Lions Club held a noon meeting with local members and introduced Col. C. G. Mott of General Motors, who spends four months annually in Flint and Bermuda. Dr. John Bradford, slated as guest speaker, could not attend due to district conference duties. Lion Austin announced preparations for ladies night and a projected turnout above sixty Lions and Lionesses led by District Governor Ted Russell. A motion praised Hobbs for organizing the club.
