Road Design Hearing Set for Lordsburg February 15

L G Boles of the New Mexico State Highway Department announced a public hearing on the proposed 3.63 mile reconstruction of US 170 80 through Lordsburg. The meeting, February 15 at 7 30 p m in Lordsburg High School Cafeteria, will hear affected property owners and discuss improvements and economic effects with W G Lauritzen and other officials.

Yount Receives Navy Commendation Medal for Heroic Rescue

Yount earned the Navy Commendation Medal at a January awards ceremony from CDR Lloyd W. Richards. The citation praises heroic acts aboard the USS Enterprise with Attack Squadron 196 on 26 July 1971 when he pulled a deck maintenance man from an A6A aircr in intake danger, risking his life to save a shipmate. He spent eight months at sea and is now home in Washington with his wife and children.

Dogies Beat Hatch and Split With Deming

The Dogies played Hatch Friday with Seventh and Lighth grade teams winning. Eighth grade beat Cubs 52-38 then lost to Deming 53-30. Seventh grade beat Hatch 58-36 and Deming 40-25. Engineer Firm Sues Local People Over City Bonds Suit

William Matotan and Associates sues Betty Lazar Victor Lazar Leo Harris and Russell L Smith alleging a conspiracy to interfere with a contract with the City of Lordsburg. The suit targets a $700,000 revenue bond project halted after a city administration change. Matotan seeks 87,000 in compensatory damages and 300,000 in punitive damages.

Mobile Dental Unit Checks 265 Students

The Lordsburg area mobile dental units treated 265 children from Lordsburg Municipal Schools under the New Mexico State Health and Social Services Department. The program costs about $40,000 yearly, with 75 percent funded by the state and each child charged a registration fee to cover the remainder.
