The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce offers a drop box for copies of city utility bills from November through February. The effort aims to collect data for a study and create graphs to analyze the bills.
Hidalgo County voters chose three school board members on Tuesday. In Animas District Edward Elbrock won reelection in position two 227 to 154 over Michael Shaw, while Jim Richardson defeated Terrell Jackson and Dale Caudle with 146 votes to 126 and 113. Lordsburg elected Gilbert Mora to a six year term over Art Malott by 336 to 241 as 381 votes cast in Animas and 577 in Lordsburg. Officials called turnout good and Superintendent Pace credited strong campaigning.
Close to 100 residents packed the Lordsburg chamber to press city leaders on rising gas bills. Mayor Alan Koff ended the session abruptly after a lengthy discourse, denying a council vote and leaving residents uncertain.

Hidalgo County officers investigate the weekend stabbing death of 66 year old Carmen F. Sanchez found Feb 5 by a friend. Preliminary medical exam shows multiple chest stab wounds. Sanchez lived alone. motive unknown and no weapon found.
Rep. Von Rue Crawford pulls a bill requiring gasoline wholesalers tax reports be disclosed to municipalities. Officials from Deming and Lordsburg sought transparency, but dealers protested loss of confidentiality. A meeting in the Governor's Office prompted withdrawal and a new committee to study the issue.
