Animas Panthers Run Past Mavericks for 82 to 50 Victory
Animas Panthers defeated Lordsburg Mavericks 82 to 50 in the Animas gym last Friday. Johnny Eddy led with 28 points, Stanley McCarty added 24, while Paul Speer topped the Mavericks with 13 as Animus matched aseason series. The following night they beat Elfrida Demons 69 to 41 at home with Dennis Massey scoring 22.

The Snell Eagles handed Lordsburg eighth graders their first defeat 38-31 after a 10-2 third period run. Seventh graders won 63-18 led by Gilbert Ybarra 18, Joaquin Marquez 13, Melvin Bivens and Rosario Arvizo 8 each. Next, Lordsburg visits Snell then hosts Duncan at Maverick Gym.

The Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters plan joint installations on Tuesday February 11 at 8 p.m. Grand Chancellor Jess McLean of Santa Fe will install Knights and Past Grand Chief Winnie Kuykendall will install the Sisters. Afterward the Knights will confer the Golden Spur degree on a knight for outstanding service. Public invited.

Lordsburg School Board incumbents win as bond plan fails
Mrs. June Hill and Mrs. Petra Estrada were reelected to six year terms while Ralph Burton was unopposed for the two year seat after Frank Bowman resigned. A $725,000 bond proposal for two new buildings and renovations failed district wide, with Virden voting 94 1 against. Rev Daniel Alderette withdrew but remained on the ballot receiving eight votes.

In Animas School District election Tuesday Jack Gauthier won 69 write-in votes for Position No 2 defeating Fr Adair Merrell while incumbent William Richards beat William Massey 86 to 40 for Position No 1 William Swift ran unopposed for Position No 3 Gauthier an incumbent not seeking reelection agreed to run as a write-in after Edward Leviness withdrew due to relocation issues.

Sheriff Leroy McCarty was elected chairman of Hidalgo County Democrat Central Committee at the county convention held at the courthouse last Monday evening. Dr. L. E. Jennings of Indiana visited over the weekend to explore relocating his medical practice in the city. He plan to return with Mrs Jennings within six weeks and cited the favorable climate as the main reason. The couple has two married sons.
Lions Donate 38 to Lordsburg Library for Children
The Lordsburg Lions Club gave 38 to the Lordsburg Hidalgo Library to buy books for school age children. The donation was facilitated by Franklin Hood and the El Charro Restaurant where the Lions meet. Hood offered to refund the luncheon price if used for Lordsburg kids.
