New Mexico Gas Field Officially Designated North of Lordsburg

The U S government officially designates a gas field in New Mexico north of Lordsburg covering 1600 acres. The Aztec area in Section 16 and 17 Township 90 North Range 11 West is defined as producing gas field under March 11 1920 regulations. Production was first announced October 15 1924 and this marks the first government recognition of a producing gas structure in the state.

Judge Ryan Loses Bank Cash in South Carolina Failures

Judge Raymond R. Ryan, attending court business, reported his about 700 dollars in American National Bank and his two sons with around 400 dollars in Silver City National savings were lost to bank failures. He spoke of his ill son Richard’s severe illness and kept checks from being sent for bills.

Western Union Office Gains Electric Power Upgrade

W. J. Loyd, Western Union expert, installs intermediate batteries operated by electric motors fed by Lordsburg Power Company. System will improve service between El Paso and the Clifton Moreno district, adding to the existing 320 volt line. Lordsburg will take 160 volts, El Paso 160.

Lordsburg Woman's Club February meeting chaired by Mrs Fuller

Much Loved S. P. Man Killed by Locomotive Near Benson

Isaac McKinney of the S. P. construction force died instantly when struck by locomotive No. 110 near Benson last Friday. He was credited with installing the new turntable and was remembered for his kindness and friendly demeanor by all who knew him.

Hidalgo County Grants Right of Way to Postal Telegraph

At a regular county meeting Chairman J R Ownby and Commissioners Houlihan Maloney with Clerk Reynolds approved a right of way for the Postal Telegraph Company across Hidalgo County from east to west. The firm has many cross arms in Lordsburg and plans to begin operations soon. The new line runs from El Paso to the Pacific coast.

Big Corporations Back Grant County Schools

Judge Raymond R. Ryan notes three large firms the Southern Pacific Company the El Paso and Southwestern Company and the Phelps Dodge Corporation stepped in to save Grant county schools facing closure due to bank disasters by paying taxes not due until June.

Railroad Avenue to Become a Boulevard

State funds safe in bank failures

Deposits of state funds in four Girant county banks that closed Monday are fully protected. State Treasurer Warren Graham said the Silver City National bank holds 05,621 covered by a 886,000 surety bond and 840,500 in personal bonds. The Silver City Savings Bank carries 13,085 with a 820,000 surety bond. The American National of Silver City has 848,008 covered by bonds totaling 85,000. The Bank at Tyrone shows 17, "'HM" protected by a 21,500 surety bond.
