Engineers from the United States Department of Agriculture report that heating a home to 75 degrees uses nearly 20 percent more fuel than 70 degrees, and 72 degrees costs about 7 percent more than 70. Overheating raises fuel costs and can be uncomfortable or unhealthy. The findings come from long term oil burner testing conducted with John Hopkins University and summarized in a new publication.
