The Lordsburg Mavericks announce boys and girls varsity and junior varsity games. Boys play Friday February 4 at Reserve and Saturday February 5 against Hatch with 4 and 8 p.m. JV times. Girls host Friday February 4 at Reserve and Saturday February 5 against Hatch with 2 and 6 p.m. JV times.
Lordsburg School Board discussed budget tightening tied to legislative proposals. Superintendent Dr Joel Price urged caution, noting governor and committee figures suggest per student funding near 1511 to 1434 dollars, with programs continuing but luxuries cut. The board approved a Dental Disease Prevention program and welcomed new teachers, while reporting on ACT scores and a policy manual update.
The Motor Vehicle Division of the Transportation Department announces no renewal notices by mail due to budget constraints. Residents with a New Mexico license expiring in March must renew in person before expiration, check the card for the exact date, and know that renewals can be filed 90 days prior. If renewing within 30 days after expiration a written test is required. after 30 days both written and road tests. An eye exam is required in all renewals.
A theft on January 20 or 21, 1983 at 308 W. 6th saw 1S animal pelts including coyote fox and bobcat hides plus stretchers taken from the Allen Strain home. Value around $1068. Hidalgo Crime Stoppers offers up to $1000 for information leading to arrests, anonymized tips accepted, double reward if testify. Also notes a separate burglary at Bishops on January 9 or 10 with guns and ammo sought. $1000 reward offered.
Country star and dress designer Susan Bain known as Sno White from Miramar Florida travels after a Las Vegas Tahoe and Carson City tour with her two large house cats Tasha 250 pound and Tasha II. The duo gained fame after a legal clash with Miramar city council over a front yard fence and permits. Bain also uses a Suntan lotion line bearing Tasha and sews clothes for her own wardrobe and for Princess Henna of Saudi Arabia.
Sixty three residents answered the county ad for temporary work to clean the hospital and grounds ordered by the County Commission as preventive maintenance. Two applicants were randomly chosen Irma Gonzalez and Faustin Gonzalez of Lordsburg. They will begin February 7 for two weeks while officials seek further temporary positions.
The unofficial Animas School Board results name Bill Lines as leader with 182 votes and Don Burton with 154. Write-in Carol Siliana and Chad Richardson each received two votes.
Mayor Pro Tem Arthur Clark Smith invites citizens to discuss natural gas questions and costs. The city has maintained gas lines, installed cathodic protection, and hosted Heath Consultants to locate leaks. FERA will add a second cathodic protection station. meetings will be scheduled with dates announced in the Lordsburg Liberal.
