The State Highway Department seeks bids for clearance work to ready Railroad Avenue in Lordsburg for reconstruction. Demolition and removal of existing improvements within the highway right of way, plus a new interchange and underpass at Highways 70 and 80, are planned with an information public hearing February 15 at 7 p.m. in the School cafetorium.

CD Emergency Preparedness Exercise Scheduled

Hidalgo County and Lordsburg City officials met with State Civil Defense Office and University of New Mexico to plan civil defense training. The initial public training week of February 8 to 11 at the National Guard Armory will simulate a large scale emergency for city and county officials to gain coping experience. The UNM Civil Defense Program Staff will conduct the drills.

Hot Mix Plant Relocated To Reduce Dust Near Lordsburg

State Highway Department and New Mexico Environmental Improvement Agency arranged a relocation for a small hot mix plant to lessen dust near Lordsburg. The plant, rated at 40 tons of aggregates per hour, must meet permit terms placing it five miles from town and at least one mile from residences, with a new site five miles north on Highway 90 toward Silver City.
