Mass Opens Scout Week in St Joseph’s Parish

A high mass will open Boy Scout Week at St Joseph’s Church February 6 1949 at 9 00 am led by Fr Daniel F Kennelly council pastor. Scoutmaster Joe Barreras will bless the troop and honor the boys with Holy Communion. Scouts will receive their Play Books and exhibit handiwork downtown while a weather event is planned for the next evening. First National Bank of Iburg will close February 12 for Lin birthday observance.

McInnis Reelected To School Board In Record Vote

A record turnout for a school board election reelects P. M. McInnis for six more years. McInnis receives 297 votes, Jones 132, Salaiz 107 as 540 ballots were cast, far surpassing the previous high.

P. T. A. Enchilada Supper Set for February 17

Lordsburg schools Parent Teachers Association sponsors a public enchilada supper in the home economics room from 5 30 p m to 8 00 p m on Thursday February 17. The public is invited and urged to attend.

Rainbow Girls Install New Worthy Advisor in Lively Ceremony

Marine Coursey was installed Sunday afternoon as Worthy Advisor at two thirty in the Masonic lodge rooms. The event featured Rainbow emblem decor, pastel formal outfits, and a full slate of officers led by Marise Coursey. LeVerne Scott, retiring advisor, presented the club’s gavel to the new leader.

Lordsburg Band’s Tuesday Concert Praised by City

Lordsburg high school band directed by Roger Welles played to a full house on Tuesday, ranging from marches to Strauss selections. The group, formed about a year ago, benefited from Col. John T. Muir’s endowment and gifts from Mrs. Emma Muir, enabling new instruments. Mrs. Muir received a bouquet in gratitude after the performance.

American Legion Bldg Nearing Completion

The American Legion and Auxiliary Building at 9th street near the Municipal Airport road is nearly finished. It features a 20 by 70 foot main hall a 20 by 3 foot service lounge restrooms a property room and a well equipped modern kitchen to serve at least 100 people. Local Legionaries and Auxiliary members remodeled the former Deming airport barracks and plan a membership drive while inviting community groups to use the center for events.

Junior Woman's Club Bakes Sale Set for Feb 5

The Junior Woman's Club sponsors a baked food sale on Saturday morning February 5 from 10 o'clock to noon. The event will take place in the old CPS building on Railroad Street.

Dr. Cohen Appointed District Physician by Southern Pacific

Dr. Hermann Cohen, local physician, is named district physician surgeon for Southern Pacific Railway Co. to fill the vacancy left by the late Dr C B Austin. He moved into the 8 P building on Railroad Ave and brings Miss Mercy Sallis as office attendant, a 22 year veteran. Cohen is a New York University and University of Geneva graduate.

March of Dimes Campaign to Close This Saturday

Campaign chairman R B Ownby announces the drive ends this Saturday. Totals disclosed show Coronado Theatre 104.94, Palace Theatre 60.56, and the President's Ball net 240.75. Contributions lag behind prior years as 63 of 825 mailers returned. donors urged to send in today.

The B P W Club will meet February 10 at Elsie Lee's. Dinner is served at 7 30 with the regular meeting to follow. Members will be contacted for reservations. The program topic is Health and Safety with speaking participants.
