Juan Lavario died after a long illness in San Francisco and Tucson hospitals and at Lordsburg Hospital on January 26. His funeral was held at the Catholic church on January 28 at 4 30 p m. Pallbearers were Woodmen of the World brothers. He leaves a widow seven children three brothers and one sister.

Cleo Goodner of Company B 2nd Battalion to Tarawan fought through shelling six days without food or drink. He was wounded only when a hand was cut on a can opener while opening beans.
