School Play Delights Large Audience With Shakespeare

Mrs Herman directs a high school Shakespeare club production to an enthusiastic crowd in the auditorium. The cast includes leading roles from the play with elaborate costumes for fairies and royalty. Directors praise the children’s self chaired performance and award diplomas to the cast as the Gustafsons depart for Phoenix.

Hay Court Session Aims to Clear Civil Docket

Judge Hay presided over a term of court aiming to clear the docket of civil matters. In Deming and nearby towns large groups attended zone meeting sessions guided by Elliot. Mrs S J Ayers of El Paso spoke at the Silver City gathering.

Roy Johnson Bound Over To District Court

Roy Johnson a local rancher was bound over to await the spring term of District Court by Justice of the Peace C W Marsalis after a criminal complaint charging larceny of a cow and calf. He pleaded not guilty and posted a 500 dollar bond. A replevin suit was started by Tom B Gee for return of the cow and calf with custody awarded pending the civil action. District Attorney Joseph W Hodges prosecuted. Sanders and Taggart defended. The case will be set for jury trial at the April term in Lordsburg.

Mrs Bryan Hall Seeks Treatment in El Paso

Mrs. Bryan Hall, ill for some time, was taken to El Paso this week for observation and treatment. She went to Dr Cathcart, a specialist in similar cases. While she is away Rev and Mrs Hall, and Mrs L L Thurston, mother of Mrs Hall, care for the children.

W. M. U. Meeting At Mrs Corbell’s Home

The W. M. U. gathered at Mrs. Frank Corbell’s home with all members in attendance. They studied an engaging Bible lesson and enjoyed refreshments of fruit salad hot chocolate and wafers after the lesson.

Jeff Flanagan a junior hydraulic engineer with the Bureau of Agricultural Economics met with County Agent Harlan Black Marvin Wallace and Guy Sheets and Charles M Brown of the farm security at Deming in Lordsburg this week. W A Short who had been in El Paso on business returned home Monday.

Sheriff Captures Carl Aker in Lordsburg Case Tale

Sheriff John P. Cavin and deputies rounded up Carl Aker with help from Ray Billingsley and Robert Ellis after a reported highway kidnapping and assault near Lordsburg. Aker allegedly abducted a woman and the child, assaulted her, and fled to Arizona before being seized outside Duncan. Aker admitted attacking the woman and was extradited to Lordsburg for questioning as authorities pursue related cases.

Veterans Remembered at Christmas Time

Disabled World War veterans in hospitals received Christmas gifts from the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. C. F. Sanders notes nearly identical gift totals to last year, with state organizations supplying all gifts and local units assisting. In New Mexico, 434 veterans received one dollar bills. rehabilitation chair Mrs. George Ringler coordinated gift selection, delivery, and family mailing, and hospitals hosted decorated trees and parties.

Three Sixes Club Brings Players and Prizes

The Three Sixes Club met at Mrs. C. F. Sanders home on a Wednesday afternoon. Guests included Mrs. J. R. Bradford and Mrs. Ed Wright. Prizes went to Mrs. W. L. Prine first, Mrs. J. R. Bradford second, Mrs. Charles Schulz third, and Mrs. Ed Wright consolation. Refreshments served to club members and guests. Mrs. Ed Wright to host next meeting on Wednesday afternoon February 16.

He traced from Edison’s Pearl Street station to modern turbines and diesel engines and noted major power types, efficiency gains, and future developments. Lordsburg Mavericks to face Douglas after 14 point win
