The Lone Leasing Co. operates in the Bonney vein area and is expanding high grade ore output. Seven to ten men are employed and a car of good ore is produced weekly, highlighting the role of leasing companies in advancing large mine development.
Mrs William Perry and her son Jack of Detroit visit sister Mrs C Fuller and family enjoying western sunshine. She notes the Ford town is pleasant in summer but winter brings a different mood.

The first Spanish American troop was organized in Santa Rita New Mexico by R W Cox Scoutmaster of troop No 1 Hurley and sponsored by the local Catholic Church led by Rev M Gerey. Manuel Sepulveda named Scoutmaster as more Spanish American troops are formed in Silver City Deming Hurley Lordsburg and Las Cruces. Arizona also has several troops with strong records.
Star Theatre program lists a slate from February 4 to 9. It includes Felix the Cat, The Return of Riddle 5 Rider, Singed, Brigade, See You in Jail, and 3rd Degree across two days with varying showings.
Last Wednesday evening at six thirty Miss Flora Barton quietly married H E Stephens with Rev W W Wilkerson officiating. Stephens is with the Southern Pacific Co in El Paso where they will reside. Congratulations.
Judge Carl P. Dunifon, with Asst. District Attorney Royall and Court Reporter Kife Royall, presided in Tuesday sessions from Silver City to dispose of Violation of the Volstead Act cases. Several pleaded guilty and were fined 75 to 100 dollars or given jail terms, with one offender turned over to Customs officials.
Juan R. Sanchez son of Jose M. Sanchez served overseas in World War I as private in Company EF 335th Infantry. He died after a car crash east of town near De Moss hospital. Funeral at St James Catholic with Rev Power. burial at Shakespeare cemetery. He leaves a wife a son three sisters one brother and many friends.
The Church of Christ led by Pastor C. Wolke invites all to Bible school at 9 45 a m and morning sermon The Christian's God at 11 o clock Lord's Supper follows. Evening service at 7 50 with The Ministry Of The Apostles. Midweek study and prayer Wednesday night All churches welcome to join in fostering a better community.
In San Antonio Helmstrand and W. W. Barnes travel to Fort Sam Houston for military business and to reconnect with old friends. Rumor says a transfer to Langley Field is floated, but locals want the sergeant kept until retirement. The Helmstrands are described as first class people to retain.
Lt. Harry Weddington and Battle Turner from Dallas arrive with Gene Montague and report regular air line ships visiting Lordsburg. He praises the air field and notes frequent flight activity pleasing local airmen.
The Christian Science Society of Silver City announces a free lecture on Christian Science by John W. Doorly of The Mother Church Boston. In the Masonic Temple, Monday evening February 6 at eight o clock. The public is cordially invited.
Robert Grey general manager of Southern Metals Cor poration states full arrangements are made and the contract signed for motoration of all power at the Waldo nine. Texas Louisiana Power will build a high power line from the plant able to carry six more lines. Forest Moore of Prescott named mine superintendent.
Lordsburg High School and eighth grade students enjoyed a Friday night party in the high school auditorium planned by Fort Turpin Hubert Jeffus Archie Cousland and Dale Scott under Miss Kelly. A sixth and seventh grade boys basketball team will serve as curtain raisers for the main games and played their first match 8-4. A football banquet is scheduled for Monday February 13 with plates priced at one dollar to boost enthusiasm for next year.
Sheriff Jones Customs Officer Williams and Dee Hall captured a stolen Ford near town at 2 a m Tuesday. The thief fled into darkness before arrest. The vehicle was owned in Safford.
W. H. Kelly the energetic young editor of the Tombstone Epitaph was elected president of the Arizona Press Club at the group’s latest meeting. The appointment reflects his energetic leadership and standing in Arizona journalism.
Applewhite and Crowell from Bank of Douglas attended a morning visit, appearing prosperous and influential as they toured the town. Their appearance drew attention from local residents and small business leaders.

Mrs. Carl Dunifon wife of a district judge recently underwent a successful appendicitis operation at Santa Rita hospital. She is expected to be home within a day or two, according to Judge Dunifon.

New discoveries reveal two pew rooms in Carlsbad caverns larger than most rooms except the famous big room. The federal government plans to extend caverns development with five times the prior annual spend for the upcoming fiscal year.
Mrs P Austin and Mrs W P Birchfield hosted a four table bridge party Saturday afternoon at Mrs Austins home. Refreshments were served and Mrs Farle Kerr won the top prize in a very charming event.

A Highway Department summary for the seven month period shows speeding responsible for the majority of 109 recorded crashes. Of deaths and injuries, twelve were fatal and eighty hurt with speeding listed as the main factor. other causes include carelessness intoxicants and road design issues. The report notes efforts to widen bridges and improve cattle guards to reduce future incidents.
