Animas Public Forum Discusses School Board Goals
Animas District held a public forum January 28 1991 to present candidates for three school board seats. Candidates Tommy Richardson Twila J Wills Earl A Merrell Judith K Keeler J Annette George J Dale Bittle Ernie Medina outlined goals on academics facilities band budget and junior high. Voters heard plans for restoring music and band programs improving facilities and boosting educational quality.

Lordsburg Lions Club offers flags for daily display during the Persian Gulf War. Contact Gary Corbell, Kiki Chaires, or Jack Walz to join or display. The service costs 20 dollars yearly and funds glaucoma glasses for area children. Lions donated 100 dollars to Lordsburg Christian Home to help cover electric bills.

Geography Bee Set For Dugan Tarango
The first round of the 1991 National Geography Bee will be held at Dugan Tarango Middle School Jan 29 Feb 1. National Geographic Society Amtrak and KUDOS Snack sponsor the school level event for grades four to eight across about 40 000 schools in the U S DC and five territories. A 12 jurors acquitted Ernest o Lazos Jr age 26 after a two day trial over charges he sold methamphetamine or cocaine to undercover agent Thomas Tomato Flores. Lazos admitted selling drugs but claimed entrapment and personal use. Defense argued Flores lied during nine months of police work.

Voters head to the School Board election in Animas and Lordsburg where Lordsburg incumbents Fritz Placencia and Dennis Estrada run unopposed. Pam Sanders is a write-in candidate for the remaining seat.
