A large audience revels in festive school performances across several rooms. Students from pre K to 8th grade sing, recite, and perform plays centered on Christmas themes with decorated trees and handmade ornaments guiding the celebrations.
Washington reports the new revenue law signed by the President. It retains the 4 percent normal tax on the first 4000 of net income after credits and 8 percent thereafter, lowers the top surtax to 50 percent, and raises personal credits to 2500 for certain filers. It repeals excess profits tax from 1922 and imposes a 5 percent corporate tax.
The assessors of New Mexico adopt a county by county schedule for valuing live stock for the year two to ensure uniform taxation. They state the schedule results from a conference with live stock organizations and individuals and aim for just, equitable assessments for the state and taxpayers.
Buck Mix, posing as a cowboy, attempted to cash a forged five dollar check at a news stand and at Reliable Tire Rubber store. Judge Egon ordered sixty days to think over the offense with Sheriff Allen and Chief Deputy Kerr involved.
The bill repeals many excise taxes effective January 1922 on items such as musical instruments sporting goods chewing gum portable electric fans and fur articles. It retains taxes on telegraph and telephone messages tobacco jewelry and other specified broker shipowner and entertainment taxes while removing nuisance and luxury taxes from soda fountain goods cosmetics perfume and patent medicines.
Sam Olney and Frank Wewerk plan a mile and a half north of Lordsburg on January 16 for a big hoss race. Frank will ride Cowboy while Olney’s rider is not yet announced. The bet is $150 a side with $300 to the winner as horses from across the region gather for the event.
A wire to the editor states Robert F Fitz treasurer of the El Centro Mining and Milling Company will arrive from Los Angeles Friday morning.
McHalfleys entertained Mr and Mrs L P McHalfey at a Tuesday dinner party at their ranch home. Holiday colors red and green decorated the table with a fruit centerpiece and candles. Place cards named Eddie Allen Elizabeth Burton James Kingston Garretson and the host and hostess. A social evening featured music from a player piano.
Judge M N Erlenbach of Pecos Power and Ice Co visited the Inderrieden home at Valedon as a holiday guest and said he misses the climate while basking in winter sunshine. J W Crowdus, former county commissioner Neiderkorn, and Mr Oglesby were noted associates.

A movement on foot aims to stage a County Chamber of Commerce dinner on Thursday evening January 6 inviting all to attend as members.
John H White, a respected mining engineer and superintendent at the Last Chance mine, died at age 46 after overwork and illness. Born in England, he was a U S resident for years and a member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers. Funeral at the Methodist church Thursday at two, Rev Vanderpool officiating, burial at Mountainview Cemetery.
A fanciful 1921 Christmas record from Lordsburg New Mexico notes a village feast with fruit salad pumpkin pie and candies. Signatories include Mrs J D Henry Mrs James T Clayton Miss Leora Foster Mildred T Clayton J D Henry J T Clayton and Warren E McDaniel.
County Assessor J. D. Jordan praised the state tax assessors after meetings. He joined the committee on by laws and helped shape district divisions for assessment. A livestock valuation schedule was set, considering market proximity rainfall and other factors. The Hidalgo County schedule follows.
After school exercises, Samuel B. Allen and Valeria Weldon quietly wed at the Christian parsonage with Alfred Brunk officiating. The couple, who have leased the Jean Patterson residence, will be at home to friends soon as Mrs. Allen completes her Board of Education contract.

J oe Burns of Animas reports he rebuilt a ten room hotel adjoining his store beside the railroad after last summer’s flood collapsed the previous building. The new hotel now accommodates customers in the south side location.
Mr and Mrs Harry Jacobs hosted an elaborate Christmas dinner Sunday evening. Guests included Misses Mae Snow Sweetye Kimbrough and Miss Lowe from Oklahoma and Messrs T B Hall and Zentnire.
Mr and Mrs M P Walker entertained a group of friends last evening in honor of Mrs Walker s parents Judge and Mrs K P Barnes of Albuquerque.
Paso visitors for the holiday season include Mr and Mrs Burney, Ben Young, and Miss Mabel Brown enjoying local gatherings and sights during the break.
