Reckless Drivers Apprehended By Police Officers

Two drivers led officers on a wild Christmas Eve chase at about 6 p m. A stop sign violation and high speeds prompted shots fired to halt one vehicle. Loyd Carl Evans 94 Lordsburg and Paul J Richardson 27 Craig Colo faced charges with bonds forfeited for DUI reckless driving and related offenses.

Woman Injured As Car Overturns On U S 70 Near Lordsburg

Patricia Susan Otte of Venice California sustained serious injuries when her eastbound car went out of control and overturned on Highway 70 about nine miles west of Lordsburg at 3 50 p m last Saturday. She suffered a severe laceration to the right hand a dislocated shoulder and fractured neck vertebrae. After treatment at Hidalgo General Hospital she was moved to an El Paso hospital. Cecil L Newton owner of the car and a passenger had only minor injuries.

American Legion Watch Party Plans Complete

Plans are complete for a Watch Party at The American Legion Hall on Monday night December 31 from 9 30 until midnight. All Legionnaires Auxiliary members veterans and wives are invited. The event is informal with games music and refreshments of hot cider coffee and cookies.

Animas Panthers Defeat Cliff Cowboys Friday

The Animas Panthers built a 16 point first half lead and held on to beat Cliff 60 to 56 Friday night. Richards led with 23 points, followed by Croom 13, Bagwell 10, Young 9, and Richardson 5. Cliff won the B game 47 to 29 with Crumbley netting 26. Animas improves to 6-1 after a holiday break and heads to Truth or Consequences January 4-5 for an invitation tournament with Hot Springs Dora and Hatch.

Lt Col Eddy Leads Philadelphia Missile Unit Veteran Army officer with Korea Bronze Star

Lt Col George W. Eddy former commander of Battery C 716 Gun Bn Lordsburg National Guard assumed command of the 2d Missile Battalion 59th Artillery and serves as deputy commander at the Philadelphia Defense Command Element 52d Artillery Brigade. He is a Texas native, served in World War II, Korea, and was recalled as captain in 1950 earning a Bronze Star. later missile training at Fort Bliss and duty in Thule Greenland. Arkansas Resident Dies At Local Motel

Walter Emery Rhoades, 73, of Little Rock Ark, was found dead in his bed at the Yucca Motel. Mrs Rhoades woke him and a physician pronounced him dead. A coroners jury ruled death from natural causes after a lingering illness.

Grey Residence Wins First Place In Xmas Contest

The G. E. H. Grey residence at 416 East 7th St won first in the Chamber of Commerce Christmas lighting contest for a nativity scene. Mountain States Telephone Co won first in business, with Smith Ford Co second and Southwest Supply Co third. Honorable mention went to F. H. Daniels at 420 East 9th St and Pablo Gandara at 515 East F St. Prizes include 15, 10, and 5 dollars plus ribbons. Betty Bounds announced winners.

Completes Shakespeare Revue Horseback Trip Ends

Janaloo and her father Frank Hill returned to Lordsburg last week after a horseback journey from Lordsburg to San Diego California. They left October 14 and presented the Shakespeare Revue in towns along the route arriving December 6 in San Diego where they were honored for riding on horseback and won a trophy in the Old Town parade kindly assisted by many. Their horses were shipped back by truck last week.
