Hidalgo County will force the South Virden landfill to close by January 9, 1992. The site sits on unauthorized property and fails to meet EID regulations. The North Virden transfer site remains open to New Mexico residents only, with fines for out-of-state use. Commissioners seek public cooperation.
The Lordsburg Liberal and Pyramid Printing offices will be closed from Tuesday, December 24 through Saturday, December 28. Publication will resume Thursday, January 1.
Five Lordsburg football players are slated to take part in the annual all star game. The honorees are Bobby Reyes David Contrares Louie Lazos Lonnie Camacho and Angel Gonzales. Animas residents plan a first annual spring fling. Scott Childress is named Animas superintendent. Mauro Rico is re elected Hidalgo County Democratic Chairman. Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority marks its birthday.
Animas Public Schools board meeting on Tuesday December 10 featured board members and administrators at the NMSBA Annual Convention. An Exemplary Board Member Award was given to 62 members for 60+ points from workshops. Tom Richardson received a local award.
Mixed Moonlight Machine Bowling Tournament to be held here on Saturday December 2k. For more information call 542-8053.
Salvador M. Diaz Jr the mayor extends Merry Christmas wishes to residents and visitors. He cautions safe driving during bad weather and reminds the public that the landfill accepts trash from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily excluding holidays and bans dumping outside the fence with fines for violations. He also congratulates households displaying Christmas lights and signs off with holiday cheer.
