Lions Club Broom Sale Weekend in Lordsburg

The Lordsburg Lions Club sells brooms and related items this Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. Proceeds go to civic projects including eye care for children. Brooms are made at the State School for the Blind in Alamogordo and support local conservation efforts.

Oil Survey Party Establishes HQ in Lordsburg

A Texaco geophysical crew from Midland Texas under J B Edmondson has set up in Lordsburg for about a year and a half. The seven man team with five with families will conduct a county gravity survey to assess oil potential and evaluate existing leases. no drilling is planned.

Las Cruces Production Credit Association to Hold Annual Stockholders Meeting

The 29th annual stockholders meeting is set for Friday December 14 at 10:00 a.m. in Milton Hall at New Mexico State University. J. S. Four County Winners In Wool Dress Contest

Hidalgo County residents swept a Make It Yourself With Wool contest held at the Student Memorial Center on the New Mexico Western College Campus in Silver City. Senior division winner Katharine Jones of Lordsburg earned a trip to the State Contest set for January 12 1963 at NMWC Silver City. Sherrill Hatch of Virden placed second in senior division, Miss Carol Robnett of Animas took third, and Jeanette Hitson of Lordsburg won Sub-Del division.

Animas Panthers Win Both Games Last Week

Animas Panthers defeated Cliff 54 to 42 and Reserve 39 to 13 at home and on the road. Jim Richards led Animas with 22 points in the Cliff game while Bud Crumbley topped Cliff with 11. against Reserve Charles Richardson scored 11 for Animas and Fuentes led Reserve with six.

Arnell Returns To Face Incest Charge In Lordsburg

Marvin Parnell a local garage operator was returned to Lordsburg to face an incest charge. He had been held in Montague Texas since Thanksgiving after extradition was waived and pleaded not guilty. Remanded to county jail on a 5000 dollar bond. preliminary hearing date not set. He previously pleaded not guilty to indecent exposure and left the state on a 500 dollar bond.

No Christmas Lights Delayed by Vapor Light Installation

The Chamber of Commerce reports multiple inquiries about missing Christmas lights on Railroad Avenue. No facilities exist to install electric lights while new vapor lamps are installed. The Chamber and City of Lordsburg are collaborating to enable electric decorations for Christmas.
