Martha Stevens Chooses for Senate Youth Committee Trip
Martha Stevens daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M F E Stevens was one of eleven girls selected to attend the Senate Youth Committee in Santa Fe in November. She earned the honor from a government test and an essay on supreme court decisions of the last two decades. In Santa Fe she toured the Capitol met state officials and was invited back in February to serve on the Youth Advisory Committee to the state superintendent of schools to propose education improvements for New Mexico.

San Andres Organ deer hunt ends with 343 deer taken
Final figures show 1,023 hunters took 343 deer in the San Andres Organ special hunt with a 3.5 percent success rate. Weather hampered efforts with high winds dust and snow flurries. Quail season opened under bad conditions with Lordsburg and Rio Grande Valley producing many limits.

Halladay Construction Co of Phoenix has been named the low bidder on a core excavation project for the Las Cruces District Bureau of Land Management. The job covers 9 325 cubic yards of material and fence construction, aiding habitat work for the Mexican Duck in the Cienepa Wildlife Development area about 28 miles southwest of Lordsburg New Mexico.
