Wood visited the Tate experiment farm as a witness for a homesteader and reported excellent crops this year. He cited two bale per acre as a likely top yield for the region, with strong corn, hay, watermelons, cucumbers, alfalfa and garden produce. Candido Barrios Dies After Ill Health in Valedon

Candido Barrios aged 38 died Monday afternoon in Valedon where he lived with his family for 20 years. He worked at Eighty-Five Mine until ill health forced retirement two years ago. He leaves his father, wife and seven children. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from his home to Shakespeare Cemetery.

Jose De La Rosa Dies At Aire Heights

Jose De La Rosa died Friday morning at his home in Aire Heights after a long illness. A former Southern Pacific section foreman he leaves a widow and four children. Interment was held Saturday at Shakespeare Cemetery with many friends and relatives in attendance.

Tax Commissioners Visit Hidalgo County

Hon. Byron Beall and Commissioner Juan A. Vigil visited Hidalgo County discussing county tax matters not as officials. They praised the county treasurer’s tax collection, noting Hidalgo’s lead over many counties. They planned to travel to Tyrone and Santa Hita to discuss assessment adjustments and then to Steins with County Assessor Matilda Jones.
