Crazy Days Labor Day Weekend Activities Preview

Pansy McDonald and Lois Howard describe the Liberal Crazy Days events for Labor Day weekend at Hidalgo County Fairgrounds with many booths for dining and amusements. A possible patriotic display and helicopter visit are considered, and Lordsburg Special Events Center alongside Shakespeare Ghost Town will host tours Saturday through Monday.

Ventura Sotelo Duran Services Held in Lordsburg

Ventura Sotelo Duran 86 of Lordsburg died Sunday. A pray vigil was held Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with a funeral liturgy Wednesday officiated by Fr Virgilio Sanchez. Interment followed at Shakespeare Cemetery. She was born November 4 1904 in Casas Grandes Mexico and worked as a cook at El Charro Restaurant with Dr. DeMoss and at Western Auto. During WWII she ran the Green and White Camp. Survived by 2 sons 3 daughters 18 grandchildren 40 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers named. Baca's Heather Funeral Chapels in charge.

Hidalgo County Receives 30400 Check For Drug Enforcement

Congressman Joe Skeen praised the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department for efforts to stop drug flow. He presented Sheriff Bob Hall with a 30400 dollar check from the Customs Service Program to return confiscated property and money to local law enforcement. Sheriff Hall said funds will aid ongoing anti drug traffic efforts in Hidalgo County. The ceremony at the new Deming community center was attended by Commissioner Joe Burgess, Skeen staff, and Customs personnel from New Mexico and Southwest Texas.

Mavericks Season Parking Tickets On Sale At LHS

Mavericks fans who bought season parking tickets last year may renew for this season at LHS. Tickets cost 17 dollars and cover one person. Lyman Stough says tickets held at the school until 3 30 PM September 3. Unpurchased tickets go on sale on a first come basis.

Rockamania Opens Here Monday at Hidalgo County Fairgrounds

Rockamania will open Monday at 9:00 AM with an open house at the Hidalgo County Fairgrounds. Coordinator Bill Langham says 15 display tables will showcase Rockamania with one on one conversations about its purpose. The event marks Rockamania's permanent location and promotes its motto Watch Us Grow.

New Mexico Health Secretary Michael J. Burkhart announced an EMS Fund Act allocation of 1.8 million for the 1991 92 fiscal year. Providers statewide responded to over 175 000 emergency calls last year.
