Animas Public Schools names staff and faculty

The complete Animas Public Schools faculty and staff were announced by superintendent H R Overholt. John L Augustine, pioneer minting man and former postmaster of Lordsburg, died Wednesday night in Silver City after a prolonged illness. Funeral services set for 4 pm Friday August 26 at Heather Mortuary Complex. obituary to be continued in next week's Liberal.

Ed Foreman to Speak at Ole Timers Banquet

Ed Foreman will headline the Old Timers Banquet on September 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Born near Portales New Mexico and educated at New Mexico State University as a civil engineer he advocates free enterprise and Americanism. Animas Conservation District to Hold Supervisor Election

The Animas Valley Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its supervisor election on September 9 1966. Voting occurs 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the District Exhibit at the Fair Ground. Landowners eligible. nominations by petitions. drawing at 5:00 pm at the Soil Conservation Service Office.

City Fathers Cut Man’s Fine to 109 After Court case

Maynard L. Westcott was found guilty in municipal court of assault disorderly conduct resisting and threatening an officer. Judge C L Brown fined 100 on the first charge 100 on the third and 50 on the disorderly conduct charge totaling 250. A fourth count of deuis eness was dismissed. The city council discussed remitting part of the fine due to hardship and unanimously agreed to reduce to 109 as minutes show no vote was taken. Westcott had been released on a 60 hand loan from the hospital and has been under medical care for blows believed to affect him.

Heavy Rain Floods Lordsburg After August Storm

A cloud burst hit Lordsburg on Thursday August 18 dumping 1.75 inches of rain in under an hour. A ditch near Third and Fourth Streets overflowed onto nearby property damaging several homes while the eastbound Railroad Avenue lane flooded forcing traffic to use the opposite lane.

Churches To Recognize Lordsburg School Personnel

The Lordsburg Ministerial Fellowship sponsors a recognition for all teachers and administrative officials of the Lordsburg public schools. The event honors the entire school staff next Sunday August 28, with invitations to attend the church of each person’s choice. New and returning teachers are welcome.

Maverick Football Opens Two-A-Day Workouts

Head coach Gerald Garrett started two-a-day sessions on Thursday with 44 candidates for Maverick Varsity football. Seventeen returning lettermen and 22 newcomers join the squad as Tularosa is favored to win in the 4 B district. The team aims to be ready for a public scrimmage Saturday at 7 30 and season home opener September 3 against Gallup Cathedral.

Former Residents Visit Local Friends at Banner Mine

Former resident Mr. and Mrs. Dick Butters and Eleanor of Tucson stopped by Tuesday to visit friends at the Banner Mine. Eleanor stayed a few days with Patty Bowman before the Butters headed home from Iowa where they visited his father.
