Sheriff Darnell transfers inquiry to district attorney

Sheriff Billy Darnell says the inquiry into Kimala Anne Bailey’s pregnancy is being handed to the District Attorney for further work. Bailey, an inmate, was brought to Hidalgo County to testify in the Wilson’s armed robbery case in Lordsburg last June. Darnell notes the preliminary hearing for the robbery occurred near the Arizona line. Mississippi men face armed robbery charges for robbing a stranded motorist and stealing 95 dollars. Darnell adds six officers will train in Deming for Operation Pipeline with NM State Police DEA and U.S. Customs. The department seeks a bilingual part time dispatcher fluent in English and Spanish. applications are due at the sheriff’s office.

Pork Chop Challenge Race Set At Rodeo Arena

The City Corner announces a Pork Chop Challenge with hogs gathered at the East end of the Rodeo Arena. At 11:00 a.m. Saturday, the holding pen opens and hogs race to the west end for trophies and pork prizes of 50, 25, and 10 pounds. Participants may enter up to post time.

Lordsburg School Bond Election Seeks $1.325 Million

Voters will decide on September 9 1986 whether to approve General Obligation School Bonds for Lordsburg district to finance a 12 700 square foot expansion at Lordsburg High School plus a 23 000 square foot remodel. The plan includes new band hall science math language arts and special education rooms, offices, and updated interiors and exterior walls with a ten year repayment. The estimated annual levy increase starts in 1987 at 7 6253 per 1000 assessed value.

Services Held Saturday In Animas For Otto Risk

Graveside services were held for Otto Risk on Saturday August 16 at Middle Animas Cemetery. He died August 14 in Silver City and was born July 21 1910 in Naples Texas. He served in the Army 1941 1944 meeting wife Tina Johnson then worked for USDA on the Mexican border and Coca Cola Bottling in Douglas before moving to Animas in 1950. He retired as a school bus contractor for Animas School District in 1976 and also drove trucks. Survivors include his wife Tina three sisters Velma Hodges Ella Reeves Jimmie Kline all of Dallas one brother Robert Risk Dallas a sister in law Bernice Croom Animas one brother in law George Hodges Dallas and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Danny Frake Edward Elbrock Alfred Johnson Billy Ray Elbrock Skid Johnson and Paul Laux. Honorary pallbearers were R H Warnel Robert Green J D Hackett and Tom Neely. Eligible voters include all registered Hidalgo County residents within Lordsburg Municipal School District. voting not limited to property owners. Polls open 7 am to 8 pm with Precincts 1 2 3 consolidated at Central Elementary School and Precinct 4 at Virden Community Center in Virden NM.
