Ed Foreman to Visit Lordsburg Thursday

Congressman Ed Foreman plans a two week tour of 60 communities in 18 counties using a mobile congressional office trailer. He and his wife Barbara and children Kirk and Rebecca will be in Lordsburg on Thursday August 28 from 12 noon to 2 pm for meetings with residents and constituents.

New Teachers Named for Lordsburg Schools and Plan

A list of new teachers for Lordsburg Municipal Schools includes High School staff led by English teachers Lawanda Moore Martha McCants and coach Don Reese along with a redesigned day structure under Principal David Gobble. Elementary additions include aides and new reading support, with august workshops and a district cookout announced.

Lordsburg HUD Grant To Improve Water System

Congressman Ed Foreman announces a $364 000 Housing and Urban Development grant to Lordsburg to replace the water supply with new wells storage facilities pump station center control facilities and distribution mains. The project also funds sewer system renovations and repair shops for the water and sewer department.

Lordsburg Elementary Sets Monday Registration Details

Lordsburg elementary schools plan August 25 registration with about 530 pupils likely to sign in Monday morning and 50 to 60 more by week end. First through fifth graders report at 9 am. new first graders must show birth or immunization certificates. Fourth grade to be housed at Wilson due to space. Buses run at noon. students dismissed by 10:30 am the first day.

Hidalgo County Jaycees Install Officers At Banquet

The Hidalgo County Jaycees held their officers installation banquet on Saturday August 16 at El Charro Restaurant. Attendees included Jaycees from Silver City Deming and Las Cruces along with Chamber of Commerce representatives and local organizations. David Romero chaired the bicycle project and presented a donation to Mrs Lazar for the War Memorial sculpture as New Mexico Jaycee President Jim Sherritt urged community service. Curt Dechert was installed as president with Lee O Donnell as vice president and Mel Phillips as secretary treasurer.

Ir High Registration August 25 for Junior High pupils

On Monday August 25 at 6 50 am all sixth to eighth graders must report to the Junior High School auditorium for registration instructions. New pupils bring report cards or transfer slips. Principal Burke Stiles notes a seven period day with study halls eliminated except period seven. School buses run by noon and lunches begin August 26 with prices 30c for sixth graders and 40c for seventh and eighth graders.

Headon Collision Claims Two Lives East of Town

Two men from Kenner Louisiana and Albuquerque New Mexico died from injuries after a head on crash about 300 feet east of the port entry early Tuesday. The Stebletons and Wells families suffered multiple injuries and a police investigation followed.

Isabel Tarango Wins Bicycle in Hidalgo County Jaycees Drive

Isabel Tarango the daughter of Mr and Mrs Dan Tarango of 508 6th St won the bicycle donated by the Hidalgo County Jaycees. She received the bicycle Monday as part of a project that funded the War Memorial eagle sculpture through donor support.
