Union officials from AFSCME were told the Hidalgo County Commission plans an ordinance allowing unions to represent employees. After legal opinion is approved and the ordinance read, the union will be allowed to discuss representation. The commission approved contracts with Hidalgo Medical Center Border Area Mental Health and Social Services while Noce criticized prisoner medical care. He praised officials for staying within budget except one. A Village of Virden letter on fire departments and maintenance drew criticism. the County Manager was asked to respond.

Payday Arrives For Youth In Summer Work Program
The nine week Summer Youth Employment Program in Lordsburg employed four residents aged 14 and 15, each at 20 hours weekly totaling 180 hours and 2412 dollars in wages. A second group, aged 16 to 21, worked 30 hours weekly for 270 hours and 8140 dollars in payroll. The older group included seven clerical workers, four teacher's aides and three maintenance workers in public offices, Lordsburg High School, SWISH, Chamber of Commerce, Motor Transportation Department, Lordsburg Housing, Annual Senior Citizen Program and the Sheriff Department. The program is managed by the state Employment Security Department.
