County Considers Recycling Pilot Plan and Park Improvements

Commissioners discussed a two month pilot recycling plan to convert waste from the Animal Landfill into fertilizer for sale. The meeting also approved a community park in Rodeo via volunteer development, budget for 1989 90 and a new ambulance, water line easement, brush fire truck bid, and tourism advertising pitches.

Lordsburg School Staff Return Schedule for 1989 90

Lordsburg schools open with staff reporting times across facilities including High School Library Mid School Library and Central School Library. General all staff meeting and luncheon hosted by the Board of Education occur at the LHS Cafetorium. No students attend until August 15 when school commences with lunch served in the cafetorium and bus service begins.

Task Force Pushes For Minimal Land Use Restrictions

Hidalgo County Policy Planning Task Force met with Anita Miller and others on July 25 to discuss agriculture. Report shows production dropping from 41 000 to 7 000 acres and pumping costs cited as a main profit issue. The group urged as few land use restrictions as possible with some caveats.

Edith Irene White 72, longtime Lordsburg resident, died August 2 in Tucson. Visitation at Baca's Heather Funeral Chapel followed by a Monday service officiated by Rev. Herb Orrell, Rev. Ron Brewer, and the Lordsburg Order of Eastern Star. Interment at Mt View Cemetery. Survived by Ted W. White. daughter Barbara Brunner. siblings Dennis and Ralph Bartlett. sisters Cora Kirby, Anna Spike, Isabel Mulhern. four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren. Pallbearers listed. honorary bearers named. Funeral Chapel in charge.

Training Session for Hidalgo County Fair Judges

A judging training session for county and homemaker fairs is set for August 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in Deming. New Mexico State University specialists will teach baking food preservation clothing and handcrafts at Luna County Courthouse basement on Gold Street. Fingerprinting At County Fair

The Hidalgo County Fair will host fingerprinting for children on August 17, 18, and 19. The program, conducted by the local Masons, Sheriff, and Police Department, aims to aid identification if a child is lost or missing, with records kept by the parent or guardian.
