Businessmen Pledge 750 Bucks for Lordsburg Rodeo Fair

Tom Gee president and Rancheros de Hidalgo chairman Claytor urge Lordsburg businessmen to back a three day rodeo and four trade days this October. Joseph R. Murray and Miss Doris Inman of Silver City were married Wednesday evening at five o'clock in the home of Mr and Mrs R B Prugle. Rev Joe Emanuel officiated the double ring ceremony. New Mexico Trial State for a Complete Blackout

New Mexico has been chosen as a trial state for a complete blackout planned before September. The blackout will cover all cities and villages in the state for 20 to 26 minutes with Mayor LaGuardia coordinating. Federal defense planners propose air drop simulations from Albuquerque and Ft. Bliss to signal bombs, aiming for a four hour statewide campaign with each town's blackout under 30 minutes.

Octogenarian sets an example for youngsters

Mrs M S McFarland, aged over eighty, tends a twenty five by twenty five foot garden on her daughter’s lot. She grows okra, blackeyed peas, and Kentucky Wonder beans earning five dollars from neighbors and cans sixteen quarts. Seven fruit trees shade her plot as she waters daily. Last year she raised fifty fryers with only three hens. Her industrious example inspires the younger generation.

Moves to California for new home at Los Angeles

Mrs. RO OH Gale and daughter Lane and Mrs. May Hanner depart Thursday for California. They will visit Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Shuvart at Yuba City and then proceed to Los Angeles where the Gale family will reside. Mr. Gale serves as a policeman for North American Aviation Corp. Mrs. Hanner plans to return in about two weeks.

Coach Resigns as Central School Principal and Coach

Glenn Mosen has resigned his duties as principal of the Central School and high school coach. He will join Douglas Drug Company in Douglas Arizona to oversee sporting goods offices and stationers. He began work last Monday and will be joined by Mrs. Moses and Darlene soon.

Stranger Found Dead Near Lordsburg Identified

Sheriff officials confirm the stranger found dead on the Southern Pacific track twelve miles east of Lordsburg is Robert Thompson of Van Buren Arkansas. He was 26, single, and unidentified until now.

Accident injures Felix Lopes on highway ledge

Felix Lopes of the State Highway Department fell from a ledge while eating his lunch. The ledge gave way causing a compound fracture below the knee with bones protruding. He is hospitalized at DeMons Hospital and his condition is progressing as expected.

Fire destroys Ruth Mine shaft near Oklahoma City

Sunday afternoon a fire at the Ruth Mine destroyed the shaft and melted the wire cable while watchman was away for lunch. The mine is operated by J. A. Werme of Oklahoma City under Engineer Robert N. Wheeler. Cause undetermined and reopening to be considered soon.

New Mexico Regiment to Visit Deming for Military Day

The New Mexico Regiment of the 200th Coast Artillery AA about 1000 strong will march in Deming on Friday. Barracks from Lordsburg join locals for a parade formation retreat and colorful ceremony at Deming Downs track east of town starting at 4 am lasting about 90 minutes. Rodeo Princess sought for El Paso crowds

The El Paso Herald reports the Lost Kid Rodeo to run August 28 to 30. Harriet Quisenberry chairs the Rodeo Queens contest seeking a Princess from Lordsburg. Entrants must wear plain western attire and be ages 14 to 18. No fancy costumes or expert entries. Only one entry per community. Contestants judged on riding ability, horses fed and corralled free, and girls receive hospitality and social events during the three days.

Lordsburg to Silver City Highway Oil Surfaced

The Lordsburg Silver City road from Tyrone area toward Silver City will receive an oil surface. The contract will be let by August 15. The stretch was completed weeks ago but never oiled, and upon completion will be among New Mexico's finest highway segments.

National Defense Initiative by Hidalgo County Post

The Robert Swan Post No. 30 organized a national defense program with a large Hidalgo county meeting. Committees were formed for air raid wardens fire spotters police sanitation evacuation first aid and emergency ration storage. Ambulances doctors and nurses were organized to support a first class program extending from the Mexican border to the northern border county.
