Lordsburg hosts Labor Day rodeo with sheep and goats on display and prizes for owners. Goats will also be allowed to participate. Ralph Smith in charge of arrangements promises new stunting acts to entertain fans during the event.
A miner employed by the Arizona department near Duncan died after an old timber broke in a shaft. He fell about 100 feet and lay for over three hours before being brought to the surface by a rope airwing from Clifton. Two companions who explored the mine with him survived. No relatives have been located for the deceased.
John Knax, miner and holder of drilling records, died recently in San Jose. Born in 1868 in Cornish, he helped sink the Parrot shaft and broke ground at the Tearmway shaft for Anaconda Copper Mining Co. Weighing 148 pounds, he set a 1898 Francisco drilling record in Rolson granite and had resided in Butte for 43 years.
Nrs T Kjellstrom, formerly deputy county official at the time Hidalgo county formed, returns to join A W Morningstar in the practice of law on Shakespeare street. He has since practiced law and is a member of the Baltimore Maryland bar.
Lordsburg Lions Club greeted new attorney Kjellstrom and former member Kjellstrom with a warm welcome. Attendees included BC Paul Austin and Lion A W Mor ne, noting his return after a 12 year absence. If he visits again, President C J Juddy Brown may host as guest of honor.
A 1914 era copper radiator Ford truck owned by T B Winslow near Lordsburg is described as still active. The unit, with a copper radiator hood, dates from an early Ford model around 1914 and remains in service in Hidalgo county despite modernization.
Miss Eliza Allen hosted Thursday afternoon for the Missionary Society. Members studied The Story of Missions and Messengers of the Grass of India, followed by an ice course. Guests included Mrs. Samms and Mrs. Will Marlor, with Mrs. Fank Lind and others. Marlor hosted August 6.
A pleasant sewing party was hosted by Mrs J T Clayton on Monday afternoon. Tea included sandwiches salad and cake. Guests included Mesdames Fred Cummings Harry Small M Chase J L Wells Ho C Walter Boyd Summers Jr Elbert Jones Charles Fuller Fred Laundry W Hart W C Downey A L Green S M Mims and Margaret Michelberger.
Mr and Mrs Kf M Fisher entertained at a fried chicken dinner Monday a stag party in honor of their son Marion Juniors birthday anniversary. The guest list included Boyd Wallace Lloyd Wallace Joe Sullivan Andres Hernandez Tom Bleauvelt A L Conner David Wright Fausto Noche John Hall Warren Fuller.
Thursday evening Miss Louise Ball and Christine Lovett hosted a slumber party honoring Phyline Davis of Chandler Arizona. Attendees included Betty Brinkman Paula Johnson Christine Lovett Emily Lewis Beth Ball Elwena Bryan and Pauline Davis.
Mr and Mrs N A Gammon of the Hotel Hidalgo are spending two weeks in California on vacation. Wade Williams and Edward Lewis are staying at the hotel to manage duties during their absence.
Rodeo wins 5 to 3 over Lordsburg Bearcats in a Sunday intercity match. A return game is planned in Lordsburg on August 30. Duncan Arizona team will face Lordsburg Bearcats next Sunday.
A Nazarene church program drew a large audience Sunday. Rev. F. White led scripture and prayer with Rev. C. L. Wright. Mrs. Frank Hindman gave the talk on missions. Special and junior songs featured Rev. F. A. White, Mrs. V. Wright, and Mrs. F. A. White. Rev. C. L. Wright gave the benediction.
Ben Robertson of Hachita traveled to town on Monday on a business visit.
A new pastor greets the Lordsburg community expressing happiness to be back and to begin a second term. The note highlights a beefed up parsonage, a mission to serve the church and community, and invites calls for service. Sunday services are announced with topics for morning and evening sermons.
Mrs Albert Hore hosted a children's party for Peggy Hore's sixth birthday on Tuesday from two to five PM. Guests enjoyed singing games and a large pink cake inscribed Peggy Dear served with ice cream jello and other treats. Mrs Sam Killebrew helped entertain with friends and family in attendance including Mary Jane Keon Nellie Gilbert Evelyn Kebrew Dorothy Singer and others.
Miss Addie Lois Morrow wed Claude Parks of Tracy California on July 3 at Hed Oaks Oklahoma. She is sister of Mrs Conner and would have become a high school senior this fall. After a brief visit she joined her husband last week in Tracy. The Liberal extends best wishes.
Damon Dunagan and J. A. Jones hosted a dancing party Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Klbert Jones. Punch and cake were served. Attendees included Beth Ball, Louise Ball, Josephine Lear, Paula Johnson, Doris Wright, Addie Louise Conner, Ruth Fisher, Nancy Cross, Frances Cross, Phoenix. Jack Kerr, Paul Wilkerson, Marshall Fuller, Marquis Smith, Horace Horne, Marion Fisher Jr., Chase, Royal Scott, Frank Stengele, Mrs. Fred Laundry and son Ronald, and Lewis Green. The group spent the week end in Bisbee for the Golden Jubilee.
Mrs W A Short hosted the Thursday bridge club with summer flowers in the rooms. Mrs Jack Welch won the high score trophy and Mrs George Tyra topped the guest scores. Refreshments followed the games for a list of twelve ladies and guests including Mrs Andrew Thane and Mrs B C Hume of Dallas.
Paul Dodge of the Tucumcari News and secretary of the New Mexico Newspaper Association visited Deming last week. He stopped at the Headlight but the editor mistaken him for a bill collector and did not meet him.
Mr and Mrs Davis Mr and Mrs Johnson and Nils T Kjellstrom were entertained with a watermelon feast by Mr and Mrs Hatfield at Hotel Roy on Wednesday evening.

Buddy Brown becomes the first president of the state Barbers Examiners Board of New Mexico. He will inspect barbers across eleven southern counties from Lordsburg, with Governor Seligman and Secretary of State Haea meeting him at the cap itol. The act sets examinations twice yearly, requires registrations, renewals, and fees, and imposes penalties for violations to ensure qualified practitioners.
Mrs. Sam Gass hosted the Baptist W. M. A. on Wednesday afternoon for a study of the book of Daniel. Refreshments followed with Mesdames Amanda Bradberry Felix Inslow Marvin Pierce Alvin Bradberry Felix Jones Charles Pence Frank Corbell and Frank Hindman in attendance. Mrs Hindman will host August 12.

Lordsburg Stare defeated Duncan 24 to 6 last Sunday as the Blue Knights formerly Junior Stars played six innings against Morenci. Blue Knights beat Morenci Sluggers 3 to 2 in a closely matched contest and expect to face Tyrone soon.
A special meeting of the Woman's Club was held Thursday afternoon at president Mrs Ronald Egan's home. The group voted to buy a plane for the new club home and to sponsor a Girl Scouts organization with Miss Margaret Green as leader. The Lordsburg union prepares to elect three delegates for the state convention to be held August 16. The president is an ex officio delegate, with four delegates total from Lordsburg. A grand gold medal contest may be held at Anthony with Alice Jones and Albert Woodside expected to represent. Arrangements also point to a Las Cruces event under Christian Church auspices.

Duncan Valley potato growers announce an average price above 1.21 cents per pound for fresh spuds shipped to Arizona and New Mexico. The monthly pool system via Duncan Produce Association pools and distributes monthly checks, with about 1,000,000 pounds of Carmo potatoes marketed to Weterern markets.
The New Mexico unit begins annual encampment next Monday at Camp Maxwelline Tas Las Vegas. Crus Hernandes of Clifton was in hospital for medical treatment Sunday. Mrs Jennie Whitaker of Red Rock had a minor operation Saturday. Mrs B H Preestone and Mrs Dale Underwood Valedon were discharged after hospital treatment.
