Sunblest Industries grows with new NM trailer maker

Sunblest Industries Inc located in Animas Valley started last October 1987 and produced its first trailer in February 1988. It has become the largest producer of small cargo trailers in New Mexico with 15 to 20 units daily and a growing dealer network in California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico. Led by Harold Devilbiss and Charlie Waters with four stockholders, the firm operates from a former warehouse off NM 338 in Cotton City and aims to expand with dual production lines to meet demand.

Animas High Registration Dates Set

Animas High School outlines 1988 89 class registration for seniors juniors sophomores freshmen and eighth and seventh graders across Thursday August 11 Friday August 12 and Monday August 15 1988 with specific morning and afternoon slots for each grade.

Volleyball Players Meeting Scheduled for August 8 1983

Volleyball players in grades 9 through 12 should attend a meeting Monday August 8 1983 at 11 00 a.m. at the high school. Those unable to attend must contact Coach Jackson at 542 8259. Practice begins August 9.

Land of Enchantment Endurance Ride set for August weekend

The 1988 event runs August 13 and 14 with entries from five states and growing interest. Volunteers are sought for recorders timers trail crews and vet points. Base camp is in Gila National Forest 15 miles north of Lordsburg off Highway 90. Three junior riders join the 50 mile endurance ride including Carrie McCall and Jesse Stillman. Endurance riding is sanctioned by the U S Olympic Committee and could be part of the 1992 games with 20 countries showing interest.

City of Lordsburg sets Friday August 5 1988 as park cleanup ahead of St. Josephs Church Bazaar. Police warn against biking after dark without lights or reflectors and will cite violators to prevent accidents. Weekend includes softball tournament and other activities. safety urged at Short Park.

Former Resident Passes Away In Texas

Charles Stevens of Monahans Texas has died. He is the father of Dr M E Stevens former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lordsburg. At that time Dr Stevens was with the Lordsburg church his family and his parents lived in Lordsburg.

Superintendent Phil DeFoor proposed that Lordsburg teachers may join a Cafeteria Plan via Great American Reserve Insurance. Vehicle Ordinance To Be Strictly Enforced

Lordsburg officials announce strict enforcement of the city ordinance against abandoned vehicles and appliances. Mayor Clark Smith says police will contact owners, allow seven days to remove violators, and Chief Cramer will begin enforcement. Bowie Transportation will host a car crusher at Chay's Auto Salvage on North Street this Saturday.

Theme Chosen For Hidalgo County Fair 1988

Hidalgo County selects Our Heritage Rich With Culture as fair theme after 64 entries. Bradley Sanders submitted the winning theme. Cheryl Wright placed second with Looking Towards Tomorrow. Chief Cramer Heads City Seat Belt Education Program

Police Chief Ed Cramer is appointed as an instructor for Lordsburg by Safer New Mexico NOW. Violators cited for not wearing a seatbelt will be offered attendance at the Seatbelt Restraint Education Program in Council Chambers at 206 So Main. The one hour session covers the Seatbelt Fact Sheet video and safety facts under the Safety Belt Use Act.

A petition is circulating seeking a Grand Jury to convene and investigate Hidalgo County Social Services workers and supervisors. The Liberal could not reach state Social Services officials before press time.
