District Highway Engineer E. L. Bandy and his wife arrived this week to observe road conditions and assess flood needs in the area.
Lordsburg youth Stanley Coon, formerly assistant cashier at First National Bank in Lordsburg and later linked with Bank of Commerce in Douglas, now serves on the Security Trust and Savings Bank staff in El Paso. He is spending a two week vacation with his father Frank A Coon and is praised as a credit to the community.

The Republican Party of New Mexico will hold a convention on August 18 to nominate a candidate for United States senator to be voted on in a September 20 special election. Delegates total 587. The seat is vacant after Albert B. Fall resigned to join the Harding administration as interior secretary. Holm Bursum is the interim appointee.
Supt KH A McLeskey and family arrived home Tuesday from Brownwood Texas where they enjoyed a fine vacation. They traveled via Silver City from Deming due to flood conditions. Welcome home.

A delegation of twenty two Lordsburg Knights of Pythias drove to Duncan Friday evening to show support for the hospital or lodging and to host a fine banquet. The group praised Duncan for hospitality and listed many attending members including G L Joss and Dr B Austin. The party traveled in Ownby McWhorter and Austin vehicles.
Regular meeting at Mee Natl Garmans on Monday August tet presided by Mrs. & M. Chase. Minutes approved. Entertainment chair Mrs. Paul Aus tio reported an ice cream supper. Club to thank Dr. Crocker for lawn use and public patronage. Luncheon and supper postponed to cooler weather. Library to open to public with space near Star Theatre Building. Membership fee 2 cents yearly for children, 1 cent per book for adults, 3 cents per day late fee. New constitutions and by laws adopted to take effect next meeting. Mrs. Harry Wacker enrolled. Hostess served cake and coffee.
About $5,000 in valuables belonging to Mrs J W Crowdus wife of the former engineer were stolen at the Fort Kies swimming pool and recovered shortly afterward through a news story in the El Paso Herald.
Development work at the Last Chance Mine advances with strong ore shows. The 275 level connects to the im level next week, with drives east and west planned, and 10 000 tons of good ore developed. Two shifts employ 16 men on development as work heads toward the 180 foot level and a potential mill.
