The Lordsburg Golf Club invites men and women to enter a handicap based tournament Sunday. Qualify by afternoon with a fee to secretary P. M. Chase. One flight for all players and up to four men’s flights if enough entrants. Rainbow Girls will sell drinks and sandwiches on first and sixth tees. Spectators welcome to watch all matches.
Noted Dr. Rafael, superintendent of the Lee Government Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone, and his wife visited Clifton relatives Sunday evening. The gathering at Mr. and Mrs. Coeto’s home included Fabian Fernandez, Mrs. George Silva and Grace of Phoenix, Manuel Guerra and family from Lordsburg, Dr. and Mrs. Stultz of Lordsburg with Estes Beal, and Guerra and Silva. Music and singing were enjoyed after years apart.
S. E. Allen, manager, announces a vivid program calendar at Palace Theatre. The lineup includes The Around the Corner with Sullivan and Morgan, Abe Lincoln in Illinois with Massey and Lockhart, Road to Singapore with Crosby Hope and Lamour, John Apollo with Tyrone Power and Dorothy Lamour, Shooting High with Jane Withers Autry and Grant, Swiss Family Robin with Barton and Mitchell, The That Failed with Lon Chaney and Huston, Cargo with Peter Lorre and Joan Mord, and Little Mothers with Cantor and Rita Johnson, with double features every Saturday and top priced performances.
Arleta Black celebrated her third birthday with a party Monday featuring a cake with candles and whistles for the honoree. Attendees included Jane Chase, Billy Short, Hood, Betsy Smith, Mary Huth, Luther Lacy Jr, Dick Baxter, Walter Lane Cale, P M Chase, E J Allan Hood, Saxter, Alfred Knowles, Gale, and Weldon Eason. Refreshments included jello punch and cake for the children.
Lordsburg continues the Good Neighbor spirit by sending Dr H H Conder, state director of the New Mexico Optometric Extension Program, to Deming for Monday and Tuesday weekly. He will operate at 112 Spruce Street, joining recently sent top educational and religious figures to support Deming’s community.
Congressman John J. Dempsey will report to New Mexico voters soon via newspaper radio and public address on his conduct in the National Congress. Barker says Dempsey seeks to inform voters with complete facts before seeking future election.
The Church of the Nazarene led by Pastor Clinton C. Calhoun invites the public to attend. Sunday School starts at 9 45 a m with Morning Worship at 11 00 a m Junior Society meets at 7 30 p m and Evangelistic Service at 8 00 p m.
The Church of Christ announces Bible School at 10:00 a.m. with a sermon titled Law and the Gospel. A Young People's Meeting is at 7:00 p.m. followed by Evening Worship at 8:00 p.m. with The Divided Church as the theme.
Rev. Joe Emanuel presides with church school at 9 45 morning worship at 11 evening worship at 8 Young People's Service at 7. A warm welcome is extended to all.
Paul H. Elmore, pastor, announces Sunday School at 10 a.m. and preaching at 11 a.m. B. T. U. at 7:15 p.m. Evening preaching at 8 p.m. Prayer service and choir practice Wednesday at 8 p.m. All are invited to attend.

He cites four reasons: homes hold value, hedge against inflation, building costs may rise, and potential shortages of labor and materials. Owning a home provides shelter, security, and peace of mind amid wartime uncertainty.
Seven top college fliers were chosen to compete in the Shell Intercollegiate Aviation Scholarship regional contest at Grand Prairie Texas on August 9. The contestants include Sidney M. Vickers Bernard B. Barda Laura Jean Davidson Connie Max Walton Maurice Hill and Donald C. Billingsley.
Mr and Mrs Ben Cochran and their son Jack with Mr and Mrs Charles Fuller returned Saturday from a cross country trip. They left Lordsburg July 15 visiting Miami Arizona Myre Cochran and Harry Martin then Los Angeles Phoenix San Francisco and the Red Wood Forest Oregon Crater Lake Idaho Wyoming Yellowstone Salt Lake City and the Grand Canyon Painted Desert and Petrified Forest before coming home.
Mrs L R Jones Jr and Miss June Brooks hosted a shower for Mrs Bennie Everett at the Jones home. Guests included Mrs Ted Kennedy Mrs Anna Wilkinson Mrs Emma Dew and others. Attendees who sent gifts but could not attend were listed. Refreshments of punch sandwiches and cookies were served.
Jimmie Harvey and Mrs Harvey departed yesterday for El Paso to live with their brother in law Ri K Copeland for an indefinite period. Harvey's friends in Lordsburg and Silver City regret the move and wish them well.
Mrs. George Ewan buys four new Hollywood Special Dodge from Motor Sales to replace a recently wrecked vehicle. The new car is described as tropical tan in color.
Mr and Mrs Angus Davies and Miss Misa Roan Davies returned to Lordsburg from Phoenix to探 explore the town where they grew up and noted how it changed. They recalled their father’s partnership in the Stanton Gold Mine with Judge McGrath and Miss Roan Davies’ attendance at Silver City’s first normal school in the late 1890s.
The Art Association with the Museum of Archaeology at Western State College presents a week long exhibit of about 140 paintings by 30 artists. First prize for water color goes to Earle G. Hammock of Tyrone for "Blue Shadows" as visitors vote "California Poppies" ahead in popular opinion. Hammock, a Tyrone painter, attracts growing notice and discussion.
Archie McDaniel a 15 year old DeMonws ranch resident was playing with a gun when a cap exploded a fragment entered his left eye Dr DeMoss sent him to El Paso for eye specialist treatment and removal of the eye was advised Archies high school status brings sympathy from the community.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Chase leave for a two week vacation by car to New Orleans. They plan to visit major cities along their route.
A Saturday meeting in the courthouse drew about fifty cattlemen backing New Mexico’s first feeder calf sale. They will consign over six hundred head to be sold October 11 at the Southwestern New Mexico Fair and Livestock Show, with carload grouping to attract buyers. A finance committee was named and W. B. Mitchell of Marfa, Texas, was chosen as judge, pending acceptance.
The Navy Department seeks young unmarried men ages 19 to 26 with at least two years of accredited college work to commission as Ensigns in the Naval Reserve. Applicants will enlist as apprentice seamen in class V-7, be shipped to a cruising ship for about 30 days for training, then proceed to a three month ashore instruction to become Midshipmen with pay and ration allowance, and finally may receive a commission as Ensign in the Naval Reserve. Apply at the U S Navy Recruiting Station in El Paso Texas.
A group including Misses Ruthe Fieher Mildred Swaggart Mary Louise Noce Florence Gwartney Nellie Jo Swaggart and Messrs Billy Kim bley Charlie Williams Orey Noce Myles Cohen traveled to Cherry Lodge for a picnic Sunday. They attended a Clifton ball game then enjoyed a swim and enchilada supper.
Miss Tommie Jones arrived home Wednesday from a month long visit with relatives in Tennessee. She was accompanied by her sister Dorothy and her nephew Joe Ronald Purcell and niece Jo Anne Purcell, children of Mrs Marguerite Purcell.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Library completed a full inventory and re catalog of about 6000 volumes. New additions include a set of Encyclopedia Britannica and New Mexico Extension Service loans. A shelf list and subject headings system aids access. worn books are being rebound.
A theft report from Gurnet te Adame led Sheriff John Cavin to trail a stolen horse saddle and Navajo blanket from his Playas Valley ranch to about 600 miles south of the border. The goods were recovered and returned. the thief, a Mexican citizen, was left to face local authorities. Cavin cites cooperation with ranchers and notes a record of 100 percent livestock recovery over five years amid recent tire and wheel thefts by a suspected regional gang.
W. W. Scott and family just returned from a three week trip visiting Enterprise Alabama Warm Springs Georgia Northern Florida Southern Florida Atlantic City Florida and Lordsburg. Across 6000 miles they reported only one flat tire and no traffic wrecks on any road.
James Ritchie a lubricating engineer for the Continental Oil Company of Ft Worth arrives Monday to spend a few days in Lordsburg. He will be accompanied by his wife and three children who are visiting their mother and grandmother Mrs Matilda Jones.
Albuquerque Aug 1 Special Mayor Clyde Tingley a Democratic primary candidate for Governor criticizes Gov Miles proposal to require Spanish in public schools. Tingley argues to keep politics out of schools while expanding relations with Latin America and ensuring Spanish speaking people gain employment opportunities without disadvantaging English speakers. He calls the Spanish teaching proposal a political gesture.
Gracie Conner Peaner has gone to California to stay until her husband completes his Masters Degree. Next year Albert will be principal at Central New Mexico with about eighteen teachers.
Mrs. A. L. Green and her son Lewis report from Idaho Springs Colorado that their West tour has them “up in the clouds” above the timberline. The note captures a lighthearted travel moment during their journey.
Mr and Mrs Nat Gammon entertained W T Paxton owner and manager of the Val Verde at Socorro Friday night along with Peggry Gammon and Willard E Holt. Paxtons recently completed a month long West coast tour from San Diego to Victoria British Columbia visiting sights of interest along the way.
