Kanpsai Races Move To New Landsail Site

The 1993 Landsail race site is moved to the Animas Overpass replacing the Gary Overpass. Lordsburg Optimist Club will post signs guiding to the new location for Saturday and Sunday events, with a bicycle rodeo, horseshoes tournament, and food and drinks available.

Jimmie McCants of the Knights of Phyhias leads a "Clean Up The Cemeteries" drive set for May 1 and May 8. The Lordsburg Lions Club accepts the challenge and invites the Optimist, Elks, LULACS and others to participate.

New Group To Play Ball This Year Lordsburg Pee Wee League

Coach Becky Diaz introduces a few players for the newly formed Lordsburg Pee Wee League at the National Guard Armory. Saturday night drew hundreds of players and coaches as the program kicked off and players were introduced.

Postmaster Bob Sarter warns current mail routes risk dangers to residents and carriers. He cites parked vehicles blocking boxes and improper mailbox placement as unsafe. If hazards persist beyond 60 days, mail may be returned to sender or the Post Office.

LULAC Cinco De Mayo Festivities Planned in Lordsburg

The League of United Latin American Citizens hosts a weekend of Cinco De Mayo events May 7 to 9. A Best in the West Basketball Shoot Out invites individual three on three and team play with a $110 sponsor fee due May 5, 1993. A youth dance is set for Friday at Lordsburg Special Events Center and the Mimbres from Las Cruces perform Saturday at the Elk's Club. Contact Jake Martinez at 542 8124 for details.

Levario And Diaz Chosen As Girl's State Delegates

Naomi Levario and Sunshine Diaz of Lordsburg High School are selected as Girl's State delegates at Highlands University Las Vegas NM June 6 12 1993. The event, sponsored by the American Legion and Auxiliary, trains youth in self government and citizenship and stresses national duty.

Annie Lee Stapp Hoggett 94 of Lordsburg died April 20 1993 at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City. Born September 18 1898 in Edna Texas she moved to New Mexico in 1925 and homesteaded above Animas before ranching near Rodeo later settling in Lordsburg. She is survived by son Charles Hoggett of Lordsburg, three granddaughters, five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Graveside services were held April 24 1993 at Mountain View Cemetery Lordsburg with Curtis Bright Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Gov King To Address WNMU Grads At May 8 Ceremony

Governor Bruce King, first elected to a third term in 1990, will speak at Western New Mexico University spring commencement May 8 at 10 a.m. at Old James Stadium Amphitheater. WNMU will award 206 degrees to the centennial year class, with a December winter graduation also planned. King, longtime New Mexico political figure from Stanley, has served in the House, as Speaker, and led multiple boards and commissions.

LULACS Set To Install Officers Saturday

LULACS will hold an Installation of Officers Ceremony on May 6 at 6 p.m. at the Pyramid Village Center with a reception to follow. The event invites all residents to attend and participate in contests offering medals cash video memberships sacks of green chili and engineer's caps. Tours of Steins and Shakespeare Ghost Towns will be available. Lopez urges community support and booth signups for the festivities.

Maura Rico Re elected Democrat Chairman

Maura Rico was re elected chairman of the Democratic Party at a Thursday meeting on April 15. Frank Rodriguez was chosen as vice chairman and Donna Renteria as secretary treasurer for a two year term. Ray Powell secured another term as State Democrat Chairman at the April 24 meeting in Albuquerque.
