Chaplain DeCamp led a Sunday Easter service in the Recreation Hall delivering The Fruits Of That First Easter Morning. Lt Phillip Bond presented The People That Walked In Darkness as the solo, with a choir including Lt. Margaret Burton and Cpl. Floyd Merritt among others. Decorations featured Easter lilies and palms.
Mrs. W. P. Churchill departed Thursday evening for San Antonio Texas to attend to personal business leaving home for a while.
Camp personnel held a farewell buffet supper dance in the club for Lt Col Parker, Camp Executive Officer, with Lt R T Humphrey as master of ceremonies. Parker leaves for Camp Chaffee Arkansas and Mrs Parker plans a Sacramento California visit before joining him. Mrs L J Balch hosted Army ladies at a morning Coke in honor of Mrs Parker, who departs Sunday. Mrs C H Dater is recovering from appendicitis after a three day illness.
Sunday morning and evening cantata drew a large crowd requiring extra chairs. Directed by Thelma Ross with Claude Fuller at piano, the performance featured a skilled soloist and choir. The flag and cross were presented by Malcolm and W P Hill, infants blessed by parents, and Rev. Franklin R. Poage gave a brief sermon before the cantata.
Ensign Jack Kerr travels to Lordsburg en route to New Orleans for a four month basic course then four months at Harvard. His parents Mr and Mrs Earle Kerr from Santa Fe meet him and accompany him to El Paso. After Harvard, Kerr will be advanced in rank and head the Navy Supply Corps. Leave it to Jack.
Miss Anna Belle Corbell and John Barber were united in marriage at the Clifton Baptist Church with Rev. Harris Ray officiating. Attendants included Matron of Honor Mrs. Robert Corbell and bridesmaid Miss Elizabeth Barber. The bride wore ivory satin with long train and pearls, and the reception featured a three tier cake and roses throughout the church.
Mr and Mrs P M Chase entertained the Chase and Conner families for Easter dinner. Attending were Mr and Mrs W E Conner of Separ, Mr and Mrs Maurice Conner of Silver City, Mr and Mrs J S Mr Chase, Misses H Chase Nancy Chase Bess Johnston and Mrs George Haltum.
A Lions and Lionesses social at the Woman's Club Tuesday featured Dr C Boaitn and Lioness Austin, Harold Scofield and Thelma Ross as hosts. Attendees included Allan Howman and others. Margaret Holt Ballard of San Diego attended as an honor guest. Bridge and bingo entertained. prizes awarded. Bowman presented Melania with a ten year chevron and a master key earlier.
The funeral for George Milton Motley was held at the Baptist church with Rev. H. T. Ray delivering the sermon. Music was provided by the Baptist choir under director 8. H. Gaga with Mrs. 8. H. Gaay at the piano. pallbearers included C. W. Rasberry Earl Malone and others. Interment followed at Mountainview cemetery.
Miss Mary Black daughter of Mr and Mrs D C Black of La Tuna Texas married W Blage Bower on April 16 in a family wedding at the Black residence officiated by Bishop George Payne of the Latter Day Saints. Forty guests attended the reception and the couple left by airplane for Wichita Kansas where Bower is senior engineer in the Midwestern Procurement District.
A surprise birthday dinner for Mrs. Charlie Foxworth was hosted at La Fiesta on Tuesday evening. Planned by her husband Sgt Foxworth, the event featured rose decorations and a large cake baked at the Camp. Guests included Clara Kimbley, Billy Kimbley, Sgt and Mrs James Maddox, and Mr and Mrs Foxworth.
Miss Ima Fairly spent the week end and Easter Day with her father P. J. Fairly and sister Lt Margery Fairly in El Paso, highlighting a family reunion during the holiday.
Annual spring fetr Betty's Birthday Party presented by primary grades at Central School gym at 8 pm Friday April 30. One act operetta centers on Betty's birthday with dolls gypsy pedlar band daisies bees and butterflies in a garden. Boys' parade foreshadows the party as sandman casts spell and children awaken to a birthday cake.
Members of the Selective Service and War Boards met in Silver City on a Wednesday evening. Attendees included M. Fisher N. A. Gammon Sherwood Culberson Paul Hudson Freeman McWhorter G P Jeffus and Mrs Beth Wallace. Mrs Jeffre visited her brother's family while the group lunched and picnicked along the way.
The B Sharp Music Club hosted a program by the Ewing quartet and guest artists Mra G Rountree and Percy Krewson. Lois Ewing presided, with the Payne sisters and the Ewings performing solos and duets amid a varied folk and classical lineup. A large audience attended and praised the youthful artists.
Mr and Myre and J L Donnelly of Dilla have been added to the Hotel Hidalgo staff for desk work.
National Zinc Co. manager A B Chavetz says a mill at the Reynolds Kruth mine is being rebuilt after work began yesterday. A carload of concentrates zinc and lead was shipped from the mine yesterday.
J. Pitzpatrick, once a Liberal publisher and U S Commissioner now with the Department of the Interior, appears on official business and greets old friends. He asserts New Mexico has coal reserves sufficient to fuel the nation for centuries.
Local wartime meeting at Paul A. Hudson’s office outlined the national scrap drive. Capt. Bloodworth Lt. Harper and officials from War Production Board and Civilian Defense explained Army needs for scrap metal to build planes ships guns and tanks. Sal vage units will collect sort and ship metal with Army labor and transport for donors. Local Salvage Committee led by Tom J Mayfield to coordinate county efforts.
Lordsburg Chapter No. 21 O E K held a special meeting Tuesday evening and initiated two candidates. EK M Hinckley served as Worthy Patron. Refreshments were served. Mrs Willig Lacy left for Silver City to visit her mother Mrs L Dannely for a few days.
According to K M Bwickley the Lordsburg pool set top mohair prices in the region. Mrs Zola W Claridge representing A B Mc Adams paid 62 2/3 cents for 2169 pounds of grown hair and 74 cents for kid hair 8118 Yba amounting to about twenty one thousand dollars.
