Absentee Applications Mailed By County Clerk
County Clerk Audelina Morelos of Hidalgo County says absentee ballot applications will be mailed by April 28 to voters aged sixty five or older or who are handicapped under federal accessibility law. The mailing is to improve access, not to require voting absentee, and residents may call for questions or assistance. Notaries are available and can be arranged to attest signatures at applicants’ residences.

Russell L. Smith, 75, died Monday in El Paso Texas. A Lordsburg businessman for 25 years as owner of Smith Ford Co he served as vice president of Ashley Mobile Home Corp in Las Cruces. Survived by wife Mildred daughters Betty Ashley and Donna Leong both of Las Cruces eight grandchildren ten great grandchildren. Cremation with private services later.

Lordsburg Pool to Open This Summer Despite Recurring Deficit
City Corner notes locals worry about a recurring subsidy for the Lordsburg Municipal Swimming Pool. The pool opens after school like in prior seasons, with costs paid from the General Fund. Last year the city used $10,000 in Federal Revenue Sharing funds for pool repairs, while staff work and operations may be reviewed to cut deficits.
