Broadway of America Delegation Highlights Nashville Meet

The Broadway of America Association held its most successful Nashville gathering April 12–13 with over 180 delegates. Leaders from Lordsburg El Paso and Dallas led motorcade routes and broadcasts through Memphis Nashville and Mexico China border regions.

Untimely death of Orran Fairly shocks Lordsburg community

Orran Fairly, son of Mr. and Mrs. P J Fairly, died in Roswell at 3 00 am Sunday after a dust pneumonia illness. He was born June 18 1992 and a Lordsburg high school graduate of 1922. Survived by wife and young daughter, father P J Fairly, sisters Ima and Margery, and many relatives. Funeral held Monday at Church of Christ with minister T A Phillips and a local quartet assisting. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

McCarthys Plan Extended Western Vacation

In a note to the Chamber of Commerce secretary Dr and Mrs Frank McCarthy describe a month long trip from Hagerman New Mexico through Fort Worth Tulsa St Louis Chicago Kalamazoo to Minnesota and back via the Black Hills and Denver visiting relatives and returning home. Al Dalton a Greenwood Canyon resident was a business visitor in Lordsburg Wednesday.

Mrs. FE. D. Baker of Los Angeles and former Deming resident passed through Lordsburg on Saturday. She said she would remain in Lordsburg South to consider mining property she owns there.

Olney Motor Company to Open in Rit ter-Walker Building

Claude Olney and brother in law Charles Powers to locate in the Rit ter Walker building opposite the underpass. They will handle Texaco products Dodge and Plymouth cars wholesale and retail tires and accessories and offer general repair work. Existing stock includes a Plymouth sedan and a Dodge pickup. The Conoco business will be given up and Texaco interests taken over.

Rare May 4 Wrestling Card at Palador Pavilion

Promoter Ralph Smith has booked two major matches for Trades Day May 4 at the Palador Pavilion Lordsburg. Walter Achill faces Count Ferdinand Von Bromberg in a best two of three falls match, and Jack Ourtiss fights Tethan Hill Cavell in a one hour time limit bout. If no falls occur the referee decides the winner. A post show All-American dance with special prices is planned.

Transient Relief Service Changes Begun May First

Riley F. Mapes announced new rules for the Transient Relief Service. Beginning May 1, families who have used bureau aid for nine months and wish to stay in New Mexico will switch to county relief where their transient camp sits. On May 18 the six month group is affected, and from June 1 the four month renewals follow. The service remains intake for uncertain residents and definite non residents.

Lordsburg Men Appointed to Seventh District Health Board

The State Bureau of Public Health announces Dr. C. B. Austin and Dr R. F. Burem have been named members of the Seventh District Board of Health. Also named are M. H. Porterfield of Silver City HL Green of Santa Rita James J. Hyatt and Dr George T. Colvard of Deming. Jack Whatley of Gage visited Lordsburg Monday.

Studio Theatre Names Junior Dunagan New Manager

Robert Dunagan former manager of the Studio Theatre in Blythe California has transferred control to his younger brother Junior Dunagan. Bennie Dunagan remains active in Blythe while Bob moves to a larger theater near Parker Dam. Junior inherits a high quality program Robert praised as outstanding in the West.

Casey Jones Builds Dance Hall at Lovers Lane

Virden resident Casey Jones is constructing a dance hall and lunch room at Lovers Lane midway between Virden and Duncan. The project is to be completed by May 4 and plans to open on that date.

Lordsburg Welcomes Major General Foulois With Royal Reception

Major General Foulois chief of the US Army Air Corps visited Lordsburg, stopping between the coast and Dallas. The reception included a tour of the airport, a dinner, and breakfast with New Mexico Governor, plus a cane gift. The visit recalled earlier exploits with Pershing and the 1916 air squadron under Capt Foulois.

Governor's Day at Carlsbad Caverns Puts Tingley Party Tour

Governor Clyde Tingley and Mrs. Tingley head a group of senior high school students and faculty on a tour of Carlsbad Caverns. Admission is free with only a 15 cent tax on May 11. Trades Day Promoted by Lordsburg Lions on May Fourth

The Lordsburg Lions Club sponsors a Trades Day for merchants on May 4 with a parade at eleven and events on Railroad Avenue. Prizes include a $22 car prize, crafts, and multiple races such as sack, high jump, broad jump, and a mounted potato race. A horseshoe tournament offers cash prizes up to $4 for first in the double, with mounted potato race prizes listed.

A June wedding is announced in Las Cruces between Anita Praneces Dickenson daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert F Dickenson and Irein Men ger of Alamogordo.
