Lordsburg Judge Must Recuse From Battery Case

Judge Esperanza Tarango faced scrutiny in Las Cruces as she was ordered to vacate judgment and recuse from the Lordsburg battery case involving Barbara Escobar. Escobar pleaded no contest January 22, 1993, to two counts after a November 28 confrontation with Patty Clark and Joe Clark, with a $120 fine due February 22. The dispute centers on Tarango’s disclosed relation to the alleged victim, and whether consent of all parties was given for her to hear the case under state constitutional and judicial conduct rules.

Public meeting on I-10 Port of Entry plans in Lordsburg

Lordsburg hosts an open house public meeting Thursday April 29 to review plans for a new Port of Entry on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 in Hidalgo County. The event runs 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Lordsburg Armory, with department staff and Greiner Inc. consultants present to review documents and answer questions.

National Library Week highlights expanding and renovating libraries in New Mexico. Lordsburg Hidalgo Library plans a five year program serving Lordsburg Hidalgo County with an area survey to gather public input. The library, dating to 1919, offers Southwest references, networking to statewide and national libraries, and serves four counties with information and grant resources.

Dr Manuel Gamez opens a Lordsburg general practice at 801 Main Street next to Diana's Clothing Store across from Saucedos Super Market with plans for full time operation after hiring Dr Cesar Guarardo and a Physician Assistant. Dr Gomez born in Brownsville Texas trained at Yale Tufts. currently based in Deming. The clinic will offer adult and pediatric care, minor surgery, pelvis and breast exams.

Summer Youth Employment Program opens in New Mexico

The New Mexico Department of Labor invites youths ages 14 to 21 to apply for the 1993 Summer Youth Employment and Training Program under JTPA. Participants earn 4.25 an hour, attend Education Enhancement classes, and work June 14 to July 30 1993. Applications accepted April 27 at Lordsburg City Hall and Lordsburg schools. deadline May 19.

Baby Fair Added to Railroad Mining Days Schedule

Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce director Joanna Lopez announced a Baby Fair for Memorial Day weekend May 29 30. Maternal and Child Health Council of Grant Hidalgo Counties sponsors events including an infant beauty contest ages 6 to 18 months and 14 months to three years, with winners crowned Railroad Mining Days King and Queen. Dad’s Diaper Changing Contest Tricycle Races and a coloring contest for ages 3 to 5 are also planned.

Death Over an Egg at Shakespeare Ghost Town

Shakespeare Ghost Town re enacts the 1879 Stratford Hotel dining room murder of Ross Woods by Bean Belly Smith. Performances are Saturday April 24 and Sunday April 25 at 10 am and 2 pm with local actors. Admission 4 for adults 3 for children.
