Margaret Richards Chosen for Girls State Delegation

Margaret Richards daughter of Mr and Mrs A A Richards was named the L H S junior class girl representative for Girls State to be held at Eastern New Mexico University Portales June 8 15. She has served in Press Club band Choir andStudent Council and teaches organ at the Methodist church. Alternate Prain Payne was named by the American Legion Auxiliary as the alternate delegate.

Blood Needed for Military and Civilian Use

On a high Korean ridge Captain John Tobin of Company B, 5th Marine Regiment, was hit by three machine gun bullets. A bullet struck his side, another hit his left arm severing an artery, and he received heavy blood loss. He was saved after transfusions of plasma and whole blood at a front line station before subsequent surgery.

A meeting to organize the summer soft ball program will be held at the high school Wednesday April 25 at 8 pm All interested persons are invited and team managers soft ball commissioners and other officials are urged to be present A tentative plan includes adding a bracket for the boys If you are interested in sponsoring a junior team please be present.

Dr J B Munson dean at New Mexico A M college Las Cruces spoke at a Senior Girls banquet hosted by the Business & Professional Women's club last Thursday in Hotel Hidalgo lounge. Bouquets of lilacs sweet peas and iris decorated tables and corsages adorned the girls.

Billy Steele Named Representative to Boys State

Billy Steele son of Chas Steele of Clovis New Mexico and Margaret Powell of Lordsburg is chosen by the Junior Classes S. H. to serve as delegate to Boys State. Born in Danville Illinois he attended Lordsburg and Santa Rita schools and led as Class Treasurer then Class President. Boys State will be held at El Rito Normal from June 10 to 17 with Lions Club sponsorship. Arturo Ruiz is chosen alternate.

El Paso Contractor Donates $100 to Hospital Fund

Mr. Robert E. McKee, El Paso general contractor, sent a $100 contribution to the Lordsburg Hospital Drive. He accompanied a letter stating that $12,000 should easily be raised in Lordsburg for the worthy cause. McKee is well known locally and has financial interests in the town.

Benefit of School Band Show in Lordsburg

An April 23 Monday evening event at the high school auditorium features music dancing and a quiz show about Lordsburg history. Prizes will be awarded and KSIL radio host Dan Contacrar will MC. Proceeds go to the high school band.

Paintings by Local Artists Very Well Received

The Lordsburg art initiative under Mrs Lester Brunner, Mrs May Godfrey, and Miss Diane Danforth showcased over 50 works by local residents at the Women’s Club Silver Tea and Art Exhibit. Featured artists included Harry Almada, Ina Sheldrick, Harold Hagge, Ruth Colson, Charles Anderson Jr., W S Soule, and Josephine Franklin, with wartime POW prisoner produced western horse paintings by J Eldon Taylor.

Silver Tea and Art Exhibit at Lordsburg Club

The Lordsburg Woman's Club hosted its annual Silver Tea and Art Exhibit on Monday afternoon with well over 150 guests. Local artists displayed works admired by attendees as the decorated clubhouse created a springlike setting with floral arrangements and soft gray decor.
